Like the title of the thread says, there will be a 50th Anniversary Legion Panel on Saturday, April 19, at the New York Comic Con in Room 1E08. Here's what their website has to say about it:

"Join the creators of Legion for a look back on 50 years of adventures and stories, moderated by comic book historian Peter Sanderson."

"Creators" in this instance means at least Jim Shooter.

Who's going?

I agree! This is the sort of thing that everyone will regret not having a record of years from now. It's a Golden Anniversary panel - surely someone in America's largest city has both a camcorder and the initiative to get the job done!

Note that Jim Shooter and current Legion inker John Livesay have tables right next to each other!

And while you're there you can stop by the Sequart table and pick up an early copy of Teenagers From the Future.

Tomorrow! Here's hoping that someone who attends shows enough initiative to record it for those of us who can't be there.

It's the 50th Anniversary, people! There's isn't going to be another one next year!

Wizard World has the only panel report that I've seen so far. Newsarama and CBR still don't have it.

Giffen, Levitz, and editor Marts were on the panel. Great Levitz quote about v4:
Quote
It's like someone messing with your kids. It's not that the next guys are wrong or less legit than yours. But these are our children. 'It's MY kid you gave the piercings to.'
Marts, on the current book's future:
Quote
"Shooter has a very intricate plot coming up, perhaps even a wedding. And we'll have a major Legion-related project coming out toward the end of year."
That sounds like something other than the Final Crisis/Legion of 3 Worlds thing.

Levitz again:
Quote
"Legion does fairly well. It may not be the biggest seller, and yet this room is full of people who care about it, and it's delightful to have people give a damn."

Some tidbits regarding the Legion I gleaned from the DC Countdown to Crisis panel article at CBR

From Geoff Johns & Grant Morrison...

Quote
A fan asked if after Final Crisis there will be just one Legion in continuity, to which Johns laughed, "You know I can't tell you that."

Morrison added, "There might be one but with about 300 guys in it."
Also from Geoff Johns ...

Quote
In the Legion Of Three Worlds #1, the Legion goes into the Phantom Zone to rescue Mon-El, and they meet General Zod. "And they fight," Johns said.

"Hey Jim! Get Mon out of the Zone!! And...when do we get Condo back?"

And from the DC Nation panel article also at CBR we get the following comment from Geoff Johns...

Quote
How big a part will Superman-Prime play in Final Crisis? "He goes into the 31st century in Legion of Three Worlds... and he kind of does his thing," Johns remarked.
Now, That scares the crap out of me considering what Superman-Prime's "thing" is!

And here is a link to a podcast of the panel, marked at DC as "explicit". Guess Giffen couldn't keep a civil tongue. wink

Someone must start a thread along the lines of "Legionnaire Appendages That Prime Will Rip Off" or the like.

I'm seeing Gates smeared on a windshield...

...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

Does anyone know why Shooter and Livesay didn't make it?

What happened to the Legion stuff that was supposed to happen on Sunday according to the poster in this thread?

I am glad Levitz and Giffen were there...but doesn't that seem like kind of a poor turnout considering all the Legion Folk that were at that con? And that it was a 50th anniversiary panel?

And why didn't Shooter make it anyway? Does this portend of things not going right behind the scenes?

I hope not, as I am really happy to see Shooter doing the Legion again...and while it is kind of awkward to see him competing with his own Legion...he's doing a great job of it.
well i cant say for shooter but when i asked Livesay if he was going to the panel he told me he didnt even know where it was

on a side note mark waid was suppsed to show for it too but that didnt happen

as happy as i was with the few who did show up i was kinda pissed at the guy who moderated i would have like more Q&A from the fans, not his stupid questions , i would have liked it a bit more as well come out of the current editor.

by the way that stupid first question...where the girl said like...for or five times with the gaps inbetween....that was me...

Ok...after listening to the podcast my fears about Shooter were unfounded...they said he was on the book for the long haul, which is great news IMO.

Just seems like kind of a missed opportunity...Johns was at the con, Shooter was supposed to be...Waid...

It just seems like it could have been a once in a lifetime event and instead was a skeleton crew.

Don't get me wrong...it was awesome that Levitz and Giffen had showed up...but I would have liked to have heard from some of the other creators as well.

LOL, I'll have to go back and listen to your question now. It was hard pretty hard to hear any of the questions.

Nice job of representing the online Legion fans though

Was Jim at his table in Artist's Alley? He was supposed to have one right next to Livesay.
