check it out. in action 850 Supergirl is trying to find a way to the present. and the issue is extra sized. looks like our first interaction with the present DCU. the issue is part of the May solicits, will be 48 pages, and will be $3.99.
I wonder if my prediction about Brainy inventing time travel will come true?

So was the little "reveal" in the Fortress from the Action Annual all a setup to this issue?
What if it goes like this:
Superman heads to the 31st century to bring back Supergirl. He meets the current Waid LSH, and says "hey, wait a minute, you guys aren't the Legion I know. Where are the pink bikinis, etc? Kara, I knew we should have made that left turn at Albequerque - we're in an alternate timeline/universe/hypertime bypass/whatever!" The issue then paves the way for the cancellation of the Waid series and the return of the classic Legion being hinted at through JSA, the Action Annual, etc.
Just for the record, I actually enjoy the current Legion quite a bit and wouldn't like to see it go. Actually, I've been collecting the Legion for about 25 years, and have enjoyed almost every version of them.

I think they're definitely setting up a "this isn't the Legion I know!" type problem. What the payoff of it is going to be... I don't know.

I am going to stop now, time travel stuff gives me a headache.

Just for the record, I actually enjoy the current Legion quite a bit and wouldn't like to see it go. I prefer the original team, but I remember reading both JLA and JSA back in the day, with Earth 1 and Earth 2 versions of Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, etc. At around the same time, I was reading Avengers comics with Captain America, and Invaders comics with WW2 Captain America, Namor, etc. without a problem. I'd be perfectly fine with 'earth 1 and earth 2' Legions. Something else else for everyone.

I think this is just a set up for a way to showcase a clip show as it were. SG looks in on what is coming up in action by visiting the local library. but to make things more confusing. I think they aren't canceling the current run, they are bringing back the silver age and the SG in legion is not the same SG as in Supergirl... I also think the part of Superman in the future will be skillfully played by Reep Daggle in an atempt to test Supergirl. Oh and why is Cosmic Boy not on the cover?

Kurt Busiek responded in the Newsarama thread and elsewhere (some excerpts): "We've been coordinating it all with Mark Waid and Mike Marts. I don't know whether you'll see any tie-in from their side, but it does fit into their continuity." ....... "It's set in the current Legion time period. At least, the Legion scenes are." ...... "From the story side of things, #850 takes place in the Legion's time, in the past, in the rough present, in the near future and even a few times that can't be described as any of those." ..... "In fact, ACTION 850 is co-written by me, Geoff and Fabian, as a big anniversary issue, a celebration of the new era and a look at the future.."..... "It will very, very much be a Superman anniversary issue. And bringing in Supergirl -- it makes sense for her to be in an anniversary issue, since she also debuted in ACTION COMICS" ..... Which "Superman anniversary" are they talking about? In answer to questions about the Legion statues in the Fortress, he added: "Darn good questions. And while I wasn't referring to that (I didn't work on the Action Annual, except for about four captions, so I didn't do any coordinating there), I will say that there's more to see on that front, too, and it'll be coming along."In related news, Geoff Johns disclosed that Mon-El will play a role in an upcoming 'Action' storyline. http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/wizard/003375948.cfm Make of it what you will, but it sounds like it's *all* in continuity -- as long as we understand that "continuity" will have a more flexible definition than before.

DCU = DC UniverseS[/b]DCU= DC UniverseS? oh man. see this is what I don't like about alternate time lines and dimensions. there's always some complicated equations to deal with.

Y'know...
My favorite quote by a comic book professional fits the situation pretty well.
" I don't care if they buy 'em for the staples as long as they buy 'em -Stan Lee-
Continuity is nice but if it interferes with making an few extra bucks for the company then scrap it and put out what the customer wants to see on the shelves. I see no problem with a story about an elder Superman, a twenty something Kal El and a Superboy fighting a renegade Adult Legion led by Myxyzpltk and Luthor. (hhmmmm...)
In my opinion Hypertime offers tons more options than Ultimates.
Think about it though. If peeps want to buy Superbaby stories then by the Great Flying Spaghetti Monster(!) make Superbaby stories! (My six year old has all the Krypto issues so far) If Japanese readers want anime Supermonkey then knock out some black and whites and sell a few. If customers want two books and an online strip with a couple of flash games then get crackin'!! (for a low low fee, of course)
Really though, I figure in a day when the print medium is struggling for survival, anything the creators can think of to bring in an audience is worth a try.
So...
Shake that money maker!

Wamu2, here's a *real* answer for you. Again, from Busiek, only a few days ago at the DCMB. ------------------------- > + Kandor is supposed to be populated with multiple > xtraterrestrial races (possibly all non-kryptonian) > yet in Legion of Superheroes Kandor is enlarged with > Kryptonians living there. Also Legion members > believed that Superman, etc were Comic characters > (multiple earth again? with LSH probably taking place > in Earth Prime? )
No, Legion is happening in the future of the DCU. But in a thousand years, a lot can happen.
kdb ------------------------- Here's the direct link: http://dcboards.warnerbros.com/web/thread.jspa?threadID=2000100387&start=390&tstart=0 So, all the speculation about the Waid LSH being from another Earth (e.g., Earth Prime) is headed in the wrong direction, and no one's deceived you. Not yet, anyway.

Action #850, presumably set after OYL, is also strong evidence that the Legion is not drastically morphed as a result of any chronal event that may yet happen in "52". So, that line of speculation seems to be a dead end as well.

The cover is a cool design, but none of the Legionnaires look very attractive. Especially Shady!

It's interesting to see another artist and coloring style on WaK's Legionnaires.
