The artwork is definately improving. I think the artist is definately coming into his own.

Notice how not everyone is wearing an armband in honour of the fallen Lightning Lad. I guess there must be some tension within the Legion at this early stage of their union? Either that or just not everybody is as friendly with some as they are with others. confused

Or the artist forgot. smile

Actually, you could very well be on to something. I had thought similarly when not everybody had their arm up in salute on the last preview page.

I think the armbands on a couple of them appear and disappear from one panel to the next.

Maybe it has to do with different mourning traditions, though.

Continuity cop moment: I would think Star Boy would still be in the hospital during this story.

Oh, and no random appearance by Lori Lemaris! frown

Not loving that Imra is constantly thinking of herself as the weak link on the team, and not only is she blaming herself for everything, the writing is kinda going out of it's way to reinforce her harsh self-judgement. (Waiting to see the actual issue, to see if Imra could credibly actually be responsible for Garth's death, or if she's just being ridiculously self-involved at a time when she should be thinking of others.)

Cosmic Boy has been traditionally saddled with the responsibility / weight of the world issues, and it feels like Imra has been assigned that aspect of his character because 'she's the girl, and girls get all emotional and stuff, right?'

I'm getting a 'John Byrne dumps on Scarlet Witch' vibe with all of the crap being heaped on Imra in this title. She's the irresponsible one. She's the weak one. She's the one who screws up and gets people killed. She's the one who abuses her powers. And thanks to Rokk's latest thought about missing gaps in his memory in LSH issue 6, any chance that this is being presented in Adventure to show us how far Imra has come since then has been thrown out the window, since it's now canon that she's *still* not matured / grown enough to address the mistakes of her past, casting a pall on her entire 'heroic' career, since the 'mistakes of her past' have endured all the way to her present.

Maybe it's for the best that Imra (and Garth) are taking a break to be with their kids, so that she doesn't get character assassinated anymore...

I miss the Imra of the Universo Project, more and more, the one who *apologizes* before going into her teammates minds to free them from Universo's control, and the one who walked into his office and knocked out the mind-controlled Mon-El and Ultra Boy (again, apologizing to them as she did!), before taking out the bad-guy who had beaten her entire team.

Funny you should mention the Scarlet Witch. I said almost exactly the same thing the other day on Facebook. I completely agree with you.

I'm overly sensitive to female characters being shown as unable to handle their powers, or being dragged through the mud too egregiously, probably to the point of having a double standard.

If Spider-Man got dumped on in this manner, which, not terribly rarely, has happened, I'd shrug it off and consider it part of the curse of his lovable loser life. (On the other hand, over the course of two years, Jessica Drew was stripped of half of her Spider-Woman powers, and finally relegated to backup character for a decade or so, before being dusted off, re-empowered and used again by Bendis. Peter has never suffered anything half so egregious!)

When six terrible things in a row happen to Wanda (or Carol Danvers, or Jessica Drew, or Donna Troy, or Imra), my back goes up.

I feel like female characters have a tougher road to walk (witness DC's attempt to position Wonder Woman as a member of 'the trinity,' and raise her star, only to see Green Lantern's commercial popularity race past hers...), and too much of this can derail their journey (again, Exhibit A, the Scarlet Witch, who has been pretty much written out for a decade now, 'cause she's a girl, and girls can't handle power, although Jean, Jan and Storm haven't fared much better, being either dead or placed on indefinite leave).

With the Legion, it's even harder, as we've got all these memories of events that may not be in continuity (or definitely aren't), but that still inform our understanding of the character. When I can remember Imra kissing Timber Wolf at one point, hooking up with Ultra Boy in another boot, and now having this 'didn't happen' one-nighter with Cosmic Boy, it starts to look like a pattern, even if one of those events happened in another universe, to another Imra, and the Timber Wolf thing might *also* be out of continuity (given Ayla and Imra's chumminess in the Avalon arc, and Ayla and Brin being 'not broken up anymore').

But the memories remain (and who knows, maybe the Timber Wolf thing is still in-continuity?), and that makes it feel like piling more wood on the fire to have Imra portrayed this way in this newer generation.

(Similarly, if Mon-El had broken up with Shady, I'd be shocked, but the onus would no longer be on her, and her decision to hook up with Earth-Man would no longer serve as a convenient excuse for anyone, in-story, like Tinya, or out-of-story, like us, to sexcop her behavior.)

Yes, Imra was always the strongest and surest of the Legionnaires, girls and guys.

However, historically, she DID blame herself for Garth's death, right up to the point that she was cheating on the material for the lightning rod.

So, while I hate the Rokk thing and the science officer thing, this one is okay with me.

Holy cow! Supergirl is back in continuity?!!?? Fantastic!

Still don't like the art much.

Did they have to put the Saturn Girl blurb over 3 Legionnaires' faces on the splash page?

And Triplicate Girl's belt is wrong.

I'm going to avoid reading the text til the issue comes out.

Ugh! I have to wait a whole week to get my issue. The artwork looks much better IMO, not the best, but better.

i'm sorry, but the retconned Supergirl outfit looks ridiculous.

i appreciate the above Saturn Girl/Super-heroine comments, however, in this case it's accurate continuity-wise. SG DID blame herself for LL's death. having seen the prophecy that a legionnaire would die battling Zaryan, she rigged the legion election, then grounded all the members (thereby saving their lives) so she alone would face Zaryan and be the one to die. however LL was onto her selfless scheme and sacrificed himself to save her. ah, the memories! it was a great story.

Actually I think it would be disappointing if everyone just forgives Imra so easily for her actions. Somebody should really call her out on things. I'm thinking Sun Boy (as it's his best friend that just got killed).

Mon-El shouldn't be at the funeral. He was still a "ghost" in the Phantom Zone until #305 (iirc). I guess it can be overlooked if he has an important role to play in this story.

BUT .....

A closed coffin?!

The shocking and creepy image of the transparent glass coffin scared me so much as a little kid, I became an instant Legion fan. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. Why suppress so "iconic" an image?

Retelling old Legion stories *never* improves them. IMO.

I thought about that but I figured they could use the temporary cure to bring him out long enough for the funeral.

I'd be less-than-thrilled if my 'friends' only allowed me to come out on special occasions in which something bad happened...

'Can we save my limited cure time for the wild parties, with the super-hero groupies?' smile

I'm pretty sure Mon-El was at the funeral in Adv. 304.

This is accurate to the original story, when they let him out for the funeral.

Right you are, jimgallagher and rouge. I was so distracted by LORI LEMARIS, I didn't notice Mon-El.

Identification blurbs are okay as long as there's "a spark of life remaining". smile
