There is a great interview with the 4HM about the DCUC line over at Superhero Times

Great pics and al 4 of the guys get to chime in on what they would like for the line. Validus gets a mention as a CaC (Collect and Connect) figure hopeful so maybe a Fatal Five series would work. The interview does show the love and understanding these guys have for the DCMV (just look at the characters they name)

Now my question for the 4HM:
Where is the love for the Legion?!? This team celebrates 50 years in publication in 2008, has some of the coolest characters in the DCMV, and with dozens of costume changes would be great fodder for 'definitive' designs. I know you guys could do things with Wildfire, Dawnstar, White Witch and Block that would ROCK.

I'm bummed that they're not going to be making any animated Legion figures. I was really looking forward to them. My hope is that DC Direct will produce a Legion line for next year's anniversary. A classic wave of the Cockrum or Levitz/Giffen era would be great. Our best bet though is that we will see a wave of the Legionnaires from the current Action Comics story. They produced a wave of figures from the 'Last Son' story and I hope this current storyline will get the same kind of attention from the powers that be.

That is a depressing thought.

I'm enjoying that story, but would sadly pass on any Legion figures from this story. I want a figure to be iconic -- not the latest new hot design that will be replaced whenever another hot artist comes on board.

Cockrum, Grell and Giffen all drew the Legion in the same costumes -- even though Giffen eventually changed many of them. I want to see these first -- then maybe newer versions down the road.

Perhaps some good news! Here's a quote from Mattel...
Quote
Q1: Legion of Super-Heroes figures ?!? Any word at all ?!? 2008 is the 50th anniversary of the debut of the Legion. Is Mattel going to do ANYTHING in conjunction with the anniversary?
A: While we do have access to the characters from LOSH, we do not have any specific plans to do figures specifically for a 50th anniversary celebration. We look forward to announcing LOSH figures in the future.
Action Figure Insider

Maybe I'm reading to much into Mattel looking forward to announcing figures but this sounds like LOSH figures are not dead.

I posted the same thing here . I would have to say that this means no LSH in 2008 and a SLIM chance of some LSH figure in 2009. Also note that Mattel did not say anything about the announcement they are looking forward to to be the comic or the cartoon.

so frustrating!
the cartoon is the best sales/ratings and critical acclaim the LSH has seen in years but ... nothing. the JL Unlimited have relatively obscure characters like Ice and Hawk/Dove years after the toon is finished. Comic book stores sell figures of the likes of Owl Man from Earth-3 yet they won't give us a Cockrum Legion line or finish the Swan/Adventure line. What is going on?
the LSH Archives were the highest sellers but DC/WB never tied in the action figure line with the archives. Sooooo dumb.

Sometimes it makes me wonder what the marketing executives are thinking.

Well, DCD had trouble with the Silver Age figures. I think they went back a bit too far for costumes when they decided to produce figures.

I hope Mattel goes mainly classic with Legion. Some characters had costumes for 10, 15, even 20 years. I'd vote for the most iconic look -- probably pulling mostly from Cockrum/Grell era and Giffen/Lightle era.

And how cool would it be to get Sensor Girl with a Projectra variant (or vice-versa)? How about Cockrum Saturn Girl with a Manapul variant?! So many cool possibilities...

I'm pretty much over the idea of animated figures from the series. Still enjoy the show, and would buy figures that were produced, but I'd rather have toys based on the comics.

TNI: Are there any plans to make figures for the LOSH animated series or the new "Brave & The Bold Batman" series?

Mattel: We’ll be addressing both of these questions at the summer conventions!

I'd think we'd be more likely to see Legion figures from the Action story than from the now defunct cartoon.

8. Any chance we'll see any Legion figures in JLU or DC Classics?

Answer: A very good chance!
Looks like LSH figures will get the Green light for either JLU or DCUC. Full Q&A can be found here
