Waaahooo!
AND a Season 9!

I have enjoyed Smallville these last couple of years, especially, and like that DC considers Smallville to be an Elseworlds series.
That way nobody and nothing, has to be exactly the same as the comics.
Ahhh, creative breathing room.
sigh

She'd been in the Phantom Zone a while.

And yay for the return of the Legion! If only it could be a backdoor pilot.

As Klordny reported over on Legion Omnicom, Mike Ausiello of EW says they will appear in the season finale in May "in some form" and that the last two episodes focus on a manhunt for Doomsday and Chloe.

A time portal will appear at the end of the episode with their voices calling for his help, and the entire ninth season will take place in the future.

Well, one can dream. smile

I think Clark rescued her a few episodes ago and she decided to fly off into space.

I can't remember if she was going to look for something or if she just wanted to get away from Earth.

I think you're right. Seems to me she decided to go off into space in search of Kandor or any other remnants of Krypton that Brainiac may have stolen...or something along those lines

He's always been a goof. How many years did he keep his secret from Lana, angsting over how she'd react the whole time, and then he *finally* freaking tells her and she's like, 'Cool, let's have sex!'

And now, 'Oh, I can't tell Lois, because, uh, because, hmm, well, it's the stupidest thing I could possibly do, not to tell her... I mean, look at how convenient it was having Pete know, so that he could cover for me, and then Chloe, and finally, Lana?'

And what was up with vanishing before Chloe could finish saying 'Davis is Doomsday!' Dumbass. *The past* isn't going anywhere, Clark, you could have waited another four freaking seconds!

But the whole episode was redeemed for me by Davis smothering Tori Spelling. Sure, the big goof looked all angsty about it, but both me and the roommate were going, 'Yes! Do eeet!'

How Heroes wouldn't benefit from someone (say, Noah Bennet) taking that sort of initiative and blowing away annoying characters, like the bald military dude who pushed Nathan out a window.

Blam!

"What? He tried to assassinate Senator Petrelli! You saw. If our telekinetic hadn't saved him, he'd have fallen 10 stories to his death. What? You didn't know we had a telekinetic working with us? Well, gosh, could that be because she doesn't want to have a bag over her head and keeps her head down? We've *always* worked with them. One of us. One of them. It's the rule. And now that I'm in charge, you'd better get used to it!"

I don't like watching Smallville anymore. I have to say it. I don't like where the show went.

But regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed the Legion episode thanks again to Geoff Johns, and if they make recurring appearances, well dammit, I have to see them.

LLP ~ he said that time travel was too dangerous, not only because of the possible consequences, but because of the way it becomes the easy answer/way out of problems (paraphrased.)

DC's used that reasoning in their comics before (and in this series, actually), but this time just seemed so rushed ~ he didn't even 'think about it for awhile' before destroying such an incredible advantage for him and the world. He didn't discuss it with Chloe or even use it, just once, to see the far future.

Anyway.

Yah.
I used to think Kal was one of the most intelligent people on Earth, too.
TPTB write him as so clueless, sometimes.

What happened to bring Clark to that point? Was he tempted to time travel to fix something that went wrong? Basically, what was the episode about? Was the ring's destruction part of the episode's climax?

An enemy, former journalist turned 'puddle' (water powered Tori Spelling), threatens to tell the world who Clark was if he didn't do what she wanted, which was bad stuff.

So, Clark decided to thwart her by telling the world himself, through Lois and the Daily Planet.
The story said that he was a superpowered alien from Krypton who grew up in Smallville and wanted to rescue everyone (more or less.)

He became adored, lost all privacy, as did his friends, and then, everything went really sour.

People began asking why he hadn't saved THEIR loved ones.
And 'the puddle' wrote a story accusing Clark of all sorts of terrible things, lies, including his being the vanguard to an alien invasion.

The police came to his homw and the Homeland Security Agency began attacking Clarks friends, like Lois.

He rescued her and decided to change things back, using the ring.

Clark goes for the ring, but finds kryptonite in it's place.
Tori walks in wearing the ring, saying what wonderful things she's going to do with it, haha.
But, Lois gets a chance and beats her senseless.

Afterwards, Clark continues with his plan to go to the past, before Tori comes to him with the blackmail, capture her with her weakness to electricity, and NEVER tell anyone who he is, not ever.

Which is what he does.
(Poor Lois!)
When he gets back, he tells Chloe about destroying the ring, and why.

The ring wasn't directly a part of the climax, rather the winddown afterwards.

I'm no Stealth or Set, but I hope this overview answers your questions.

Durn! I understood the Legion (in their episode)describing the ring as enabling him to travel to see them in the future...not as an all-purpose time-travel device! shrug

Well, I for one am not too worried, since this whole thread STARTED with the news that they plan to bring the LSH back next season anyway.

I think Clark's destroying of the ring would have made a lot more sense if he had instead emphasized the "if it ever fell into the wrong hands as it almost did just now" aspect, though.

And from a plot standpoint, keeping the ring would have invited the constant criticism "why didn't he just go back in time? Why didn't he just go to the future to get the Legion's help?"

I haven't watched the new episode yet, but this is how I remember it, too. Sounds like a story editor isn't doing his/her job.
