I'm re-writing the "Rewards" chapter of my roleplaying game. I wanted to start it out by listing the Legions Greatest Triumphs. Sure its only a paragraph, but I also thought it might make a cool thread for folks to participate in.

So what are the Legions Greatest Triumphs?

Of all the stories, which were the ones that had the greatest impact on saving the galaxy and why?

Have their been other great achievements the Legion has had that were not necessarily on such a grand scale, yet had they not occurred, life in the 30th century would be totally different than we know?

What are these pinnacle moments and what makes them so great?

Preboot:

- Great Darkness Saga is an obvious choice. Saving the universe from enslavement by Darkseid was a big deal.

- Magic Wars I haven't read but I think it's about the breakdown of science over magic so that would be pretty universe-changing.

Reboot:

- White Triangle storyline. Stopping some crazed xenophobic Daxamites from laying waste to the galaxy the way they did Trom made for a gripping and exciting story.

- The Blight. Another bunch of baddies that liked to destroy worlds. Overcoming them was one of the Reboot Legion's greatest triumphs IMO.

That's a few to get you started PG.

Blacula, can you give me an issue range to look at for reference for either or both of these adventure arcs?

Sure. The White Triangle was a long simmering storyline that took up pretty much the whole first year of the Reboot - LSH (1989 series) # 0, 62-71 and Legionnaires # 0, 19-28, culminating in Legionnaires Annual #2 with an epilogue in LSH (1989 series) #73.

The Blight storyline took place in Legionnaires #79-80 and LSH (1989 series) # 122-123.

Magic Wars was in LSH (1984 series) #60-63.

And The Great Darkness Saga was in LSH (1980 series) #290-294.

My first Legion comic was Superboy starring the Legion of Super-Heroes #212, with Calorie Queen and her gang challenging six Legionnaires. Seeing the statue of Ferro Lad there, I knew he had to be a dead Legionnaire but I didn't know any facts surrounding it. Then I found issue #206 where the clones of Ferro Lad and Invisible Kid showed up in Smallville. Thus I learned how he died, though no real details were provided.

Eventuall a friend who was an avid comic collector gave me an old beat up Legion comic from one of his older brothers. It was the end of the storyline and so I got to find out how Ferro Lad died. SO for me, this story was pretty epic.

Then I got the Earth Way (though I was missing the 1st issue), loved it for its length and epic crisis.

While it didn't have as many big, explode-y battles, I'd have to say the exposure of President Chu in the Reboot was a great triumph.

The most relevant issues are

Legionnaires 33-34, 36 and an epilogue in 37;

and

LSH 78-80.

However, the story wrapped up tons of plot points that started in the 1st year of the reboot too.

Let's throw in Earthwar, where the Legion stops Mordru after he's taken over Earth and manipulated much of the UP.

I would have but Colossal Boy already had smile

Ultra Boy playing off Mordru against Glorith. Had he not done that, everything would be different.
