I'm very pleased to have coined a new phrase.

With Deboot and Threeboot.

I'm scoring quite a lexicon.

Sorry, but John Byrne is most definitely an arch enemy of the Legion.
Since you obviously disagree with Byrne on the subject, are you saying the Legionnaires were not spoiled brats in their initial appearance? Cause it seems to me that he has a point here, and disliking them for that reason seems to be as valid a possition as any.

I was traditionally always a Marvel guy (besides the Legion). But JSA and JLA might be my two favorite titles. Is that because I used to be a Marvel guy? smile

#4. Skin color is largely an environmental reaction.
Or, it has been, in the past. Already today we can muck with the melanin levels to darken or lighten people, and with gene therapy, we could even do so permanantly (although we haven't yet). There's no reason at all why people a hundred years from now, let alone a thousand, won't be able to pop a pill and have 'black' pigmentation. Or 'white.' Said pill could be just a melanin blocker / catalyst, or it could use a retrovirus to actually insert the appropriate genes, making it something that would pass on to the children as well.

Within a month of landing on said planet, they could have 'adapted' themselves already.

Assuming that some hot bright sunny world was settled by caucasians from earth, I could see them darkening up within a single generation, using their science, simply as a convenience, regardless of their genetic heritage.

Nature is the slow boat to change. We've advanced far beyond that even today, and within the next centuries, all bets are off...

Owning the Archive, the Legion were horrible/horrible/horrible pranksters on poor Clark Kent but I wouldn't say spoiled. It's a bit like going back in time to meet a young General Patton and refusing to let him join your military history club.

Yes. Read them. You might end up being pissed off but what the heck.
The story's not finished anyway.
I may end up being pissed off before it's over, I don't know yet.
...but..
I like it so far. I have high hopes that I'll like it when the story's done.

In any case it's lots of fun to read free comics.
laugh

btw, your dad buys the Legion? Do we know him? Should we know him? Tell him he ought to post here sometime.

going on, but it seems too much to ask of any post-modern fanboy creator (I'm looking at you, Johns and Meltzer!) to NOT exploit continuity ambiguities and contradictions for a story. And that's clearly what's going on here. Still, I am delighted to see Karate Kid, Dawnstar, Dream Girl, and Star Boy get some attention. If people like Karate Kid in JSA/JLA, maybe they will check out one of the Legion books. If people love Dawnstar in JSA/JLA, maybe they will clamor for her return to the Legion. That would be good.

It also seems clear (as clear as anything) that the Legion (a Legion) played an important role in Superman's life, since he has monuments to them in the Fortress of Solitude,
)Then we might assume that Supes had less than fraternal feelings for Chem King, Tellus and Quislet, as they are noticeably absent!(

Apparently, not ALL the Legionnaires made Superman's Friend's List else how do you explain TWO Invisible Kids but not one statue for Chemical King, Quislet, or Tellus? Someone needs to do an untold tale of "The Legionnaires Who Would Not Be Allowed into the Fortress!"

It also seems clear (as clear as anything) that the Legion (a Legion) played an important role in Superman's life, since he has monuments to them in the Fortress of Solitude, talks to Batman about flight rings, etc. It will be fun to see what connection Supes has with the Legion. Is it just some version of the cross-overs of the last 20 years, or something more profound? I hope the latter. I always thought there was something great to the idea of Superman realizing his responsibilities by seeing group of kids 1,000 years in the future emulating his legacy. The animated show gets this, and I hope whatever version of Legion is published going forward gets it too.

My guess is you'll end up pissed. The only thing I've particularly liked about the crossover so far is Superman's description of who the Legion are. Most of it is just dragging about five pages worth of story over two issues.

Can't wait to see the reaction when it turns out the 7 Legionnaires were sent as sleeper agents to assassinate Superman for some terrible thing he hasn't done yet, with the added twist they've targeted the wrong Superman.

We have to take into account this story was scripted *a year ago* when there was probably no intention to displace the WaK Legion with another. Sure, intentions change, but I'm not so sure this is going to play out the way people think it is.

Johns from an interview in Wizard # 187:

"The Legion is as important to the DC Universe as the Justice League and the Justice Society...That's what we're trying to illustrate. There's stuff that's going to come out of [the crossover] that's going to propel the Legion and show them as having a very important role in the DC Universe, even if they're not here."

Spoiled Brats compared to who? Superboy?

You ever see the stuff he pulled on poor Lana?

We're lucky she didn't wind up institutionalized.

And it's not like Superboy was pure class either...he spent about 50% of the Silver Age pouting.

That was just 50's - 60's era DC...

Check out SuperDick.com for proof that the Legion wasn't any worse than Superman.

The point I was making was the John Byrne didn't like the Legion...if he had, he wouldn't have gutted it.

To be fair, there was no reason the Legion couldn't have received the "Man of Steel" treatment and carried on.

They didn't though and things just got weirder and weirder

What if... Darkseid's curse at the end of "Great Darkness" actually was responsible, in some meta-metaphysical brainbending way, for everything up to and including "5 years later", Batch SW6, Bounty, Karate Kid's death, Tinya's death, End of an Era, Zero Hour reboot, Archie Legion, Emerald Vi, Terrorform Zoe, Sensor The Snake, this current snoozefest of an incarnation, the dropoff in interest from the fan base over the last 20 years, the mismanagement of the Baxter series from DC, Giffen going a little bit kaboodles, Mike Carlin and John Byrne's systematic attempt to decimate the Legion for all time, and possibly most nefariously, Cherr-Bear Gelato?

Think about it. Up to and during Great Darkness, the Legion of Super-Heroes was flying high, with brilliant writing, great art, great sales, and a huge fan base. After Great Darkness, it took a while, but things began to fray and tarnish, not only within the book, but outside the book as well. This led eventually to the Zero Hour reboot, which led to a slave race of Disney Racoons on Orando, which led to our current book...

What if this entire saga of the last 20 years was the result of Darkseid's curse??? Part of me is being facetious, but part of me is dead serious. If Reed Richards can figure out in the second-to-last issue of 1602 that everyone is living inside a comic book, anything is possible.

Maybe this crossover will undo the mass destruction Darkseid's curse has wrought on the LSH for the last two decades.

And maybe I'm high. smile But you have to admit, it almost makes a whacked out kind of sense...

Oh, and could this be the single longest LSH thread in the board's history by the time it's done? I bet it could...[/b]
Kippers, in a way, you've just described the resident theory of Legion World's Matthew E!

But still, I hope you *are* high!

What happened to the Zero Hour Legion's meeting with Superman. Final Night? When a group of them were stuck in the 20th/21st century?

Superman said he hasn't seen the Legion since before Crisis. Did he mean "his" Legion?

Bart Allen is the Flash! He's from the postboot ZH Legion. How are they going to explain this?

Interesting theory Kippers has. Though I think there were many, many good stories to follow, things definitely took a turn for the darker soon afterwards in both body count and continuity nightmares. Then, there was the darker edge with 5YL and later, the disposable nature of LSH continuity with 2 reboots.

Off the top of my head and relating somewhat to Kippers' idea, I'm not sure that Kal and Kara ever appeared as Legionnaires after GDS, excepting the issues that dealt with their deaths. I keep thinking that Kal may have appeared in early Baxter circa the LSV War, but I don't think Kara had more than a cameo or two until the Crisis crossover that showed Brainy mourning her and some Legionnaires's theory that she was Sensor Girl.

Any better memories out there?

They did appear. Supergirl was in that story with the Emerald Empress on Weber's World. I think they were both there for LSH #300 and Karate Kid's wedding. Wasn't Superboy around for the story where Mon-El went nuts?

Not sure about that, but Superboy did show up one more time and had a chess match with Brainy.

Supergirl also helped out Dirk and Brainy in battling the Dark Circle in their own space in some 'Tales of LSH' issues, while they were running simultaineously with the Baxter series.

Forgot about her being in the Weber's World/Empress story. And Kal probably appeared also, either in that story or another, if not both. I guess you can say GDS was their last "big" moment, though, before they died and the Legion's last epic victory without losing any of their own.

Since Countdown's supposed to tie into other current comics from week to week and the Darkseid connection is there, the "curse" being brought back to explain things is certainly within the realm of possibility.

A side note - I think it would be neat for Cyclone to join the Legion and Starman to remain with the JSA once the Lightning Saga is over. This would be a good link between the Legion and JLA. And I also think if a Legionnaire gets snuffed it will be Dream Girl.

If after everything is said and done the Legion could just move forward from rebooting and rehashing and simply just tell stories I'd certainy be happy.
