wow i suspect that Night Girl is secretly inducting Power Boy and Lamprey into the Legion Subs. NOw thats an idea more intriguing if it goes into that direction. hmmm.....

Two stories, one for the Academy, one for Sorcerer's World (No Jiminez).
But more importantly, the teaser for next month:

Exquisite.
Poor, clueless Rokk. What a waste.
Go Glorith!

I read it over lunch. Very quick read with not much happening, IMHO. Gorgeous art though.
Does anyone else think the dialogue seems disjointed in the last few issues? It doesn't seem to flow naturally. Like 2 people are having different conversations or something.
Really want them to put Mordru in mothballs for at least 10 years. This appearance was not worthy of him and it's been done and redone.

I just finished reading it and I must say I was a bit disappointed. Surely there is tension between Night Girl and Cosmic Boy, but I'm not sure what the source of that tension is. Are they still together or not?
So, are we to assume that Power Boy and Lamprey will be the new prison guards at Takron-Galtos? I don't think I'd like that job, but hey..if it pays the bills.
What about Nightwind? Shadow Kid? Urk? Crystal Kid? Mandalla? Westerner? Are we going to find out what happens to them?
And the new kids? Are they all going to be joining the Legion? I hope so. I especially like Chemical Kid, Gravity Kid and Glorith. I could do without Comet Queen, Vairiable Lad and Dragonwing.
The back-up was ok, but it really didn't do much. I did like seeing Harlack though. I would like to see more of him.
The art was gorgeous!

No disappointment here. I've enjoyed the past few issues of Adventure so much more than the main series. Another beautiful Jimenez cover. The lead story was fast paced and character driven. Chemical Kid and Dragonwing showed their true colors. Jed's action scenes were nice to look at.
Lieutenant Pozner? Sweet tribute.
As much as I would have loved to have seen Phil's work for the whole issue, I really can't complain about the art in the second story. Harlak looked great. Mysa came across as very powerful. The little bird creature, Syri, was a nice nod to the past. I remember the image but don't remember him ever having a name before.
Beauty's where you find it. Not just where you bump and grind it.

Rokk and Lydda split when Rokk resumed the leadership (in the Geoff John storylines). What confused me was Lydda talking about 'her kids' as if she had been teaching the Academy students forever but she's only been with the Academy since after Legion of Three Worlds, surely? Power Boy has been at the Academy since Dawnstar was a student. In the time that Power Boy and Lamprey have been at the Academy, Night Girl has gone from the Subs to retirement with Rokk, to the second Subs, to the Legion and now to the Academy. Hardly time to know the students' names. (I've been thinking about this again and of course while in the second Subs, Lydda and Rokk were teamed with Chuck and Luornu plus KK II and Comet Queen. So it makes sense that during that time both Rokk and Lydda would have hung around the Academy and perhaps became instructors)

I must have missed the issue where it says that Cosmic Boy and Night Girl had split. Can you give me the title and page number where it says so? I'd like to read it.
And also, I don't think that Power Boy and Lamprey are "kids". As you said, they've been around a very long time. It seems to me they should already have graduated before now.

I am glad someone else is having the same problem I am. I thought maybe I missed an issue or a panel was missing, becasue I had no clue what they were talking about. Without context it seems like Night Girl is full of crazy talk

Re: Rokk & Lydda - as far as I recall, we never got a panel with Lydda complaining that 'she'd caught Rokk in bed with Sinde so she broke up with him' kind of thing.
I seem to remember it was just a scene with Rokk saying to Garth or someone that 'they'd all had to make sacrifices for the team' ... and then there was a quick panel of Lydda looking sad. So readers put two and two together.
But the whole situation has been pretty vague up until now.

I'd like to read it. They've been suggested to no longer be a couple since the Lightning Saga bit in JLA. The only time we've seen them look even a little bit couple-y was in the Adventure issue where the universe was being destroyed, and Brainy was calling on everyone to throw all of their power on the time sphere, so that it could punch into the past and save them from whatever was destroying the universe. As the universe began to collapse, Night Girl was shown standing next to Cosmic Boy, and even had her hand on his shoulder or something, IIRC,, which, since their reappearance, was the only time they weren't distinctly away from each other. Lo3W has Rokk complaining to Garth about how he had to sacrifice everything, and give up any chance at a relationship for himself so that Garth and Imra could relax their Legion-founder-focus and concentrate on their marriage. Indeed, he comes *this* close of accusing Garth of abandoning his responsibility to the Legion to go play house, and it was a bit over the top... And also, I don't think that Power Boy and Lamprey are "kids". As you said, they've been around a very long time. It seems to me they should already have graduated before now. By our standards, twenty or twenty five years, sure, but a lot of that was eaten up by 5YL, Reboot and Threeboot, in comic-book time. I think the fact that Graym is still a small child means that they aren't more than three to five years older than when we last saw them, in the Baxter Legion. (Which still feels like a ridiculously long time, since I didn't think of the Academy as a four-year program, but more of a two-year thing, tops.)

But the whole situation has been pretty vague up until now. In issue 2 of Legion of 3 Worlds, Garth asks Imra(reffering to Rokk)," Why's he the Leader? Why's he put it all on his shoulders?" Rokk explodes upon hearing this, and replies," So it's not on yours! So it's not on Imra's! So you two can have a life together outside the team!!" Rokk continues in the next panel(w/ a forlorn Lydda listening intently in the background)," I've GIVEN UP my life, my relationships, so you don't have to!!" Others may find that vague, but to me it clearly establishes that Rokk ended his relationship w/ Lydda to devote himself fully to the Legion. It's one of the more effective scenes in Lo3W, despite it's abundance of melodrama, and I totally choked up the first time I read it.

I don't believe he's ever shown passing though objects, but he lowers his density (and that of the other Academy students) in order to slow their descent through the air in one of the issues shortly before the v3 tryout issue.

In previous appearances, it was even suggested that he didn't become super-tough or invulnerable, but was *only* super-strong (just as Laurel Kent was *only* invulnerable), which made it seem like he really had no chance to ever become a Legionnaire. But, despite the depictions of his power, he was said to 'manipulate his density' to become super-strong, which does allow for the possibility that he could manipulate his density in the other direction (or density up to be diamond-tough or whatever).

Not much talk about this issue it seems. It was a bit light I guess.
First story -
* I think it's obvious now why Phil's taking a break month from this title in June or whenever it is. Some of his pencils this issue were their usual fabulousness and others were... less so. Particularly Rokk's face. What was going on there? Every single panel of his face it looked like he'd received a call from Samara from The Ring and now his face was being all distorted whenever it was captured on paper! It was creeping me out!
* I didn't like the way Lydda came across this issue. If you're going to be all passive-aggressively inappropriate in a work situation then it's no wonder he broke up with you, girl! Show some dignity.
* Weren't there two Shagreks in the previous issue? What happened to the other one?
* I hope Power Boy and Lamprey don't go to work at Takron-Galtos. That's like just asking to be killed.
* All in all I really liked the first story in this issue though. I think the reason this story is so great is that, because of the characters that it's focusing on, it just feels all so fresh and new and exciting. Compare it to the main LoSH book with its focus on all the boring usuals and it's no wonder this book is getting such good buzz while the other one is floundering.
Second story -
* It was OK. There's not much to say about it. I liked seeing Mysa (and Blok) again but her struggle with Mordru wasn't very interesting or exciting. I hope Paul can move her beyond this whole hackneyed "Can she control the evil within?" plotline. It is SO overdone with magic based characters
Next issue -
* XS! YES! * Jeff Moy! YES! * Phil Moy! erm... couldn't they have gotten Tom McCraw? (Or whoever it was that was Jeff Moy's main inker back in the Reboot.) Phil Moy only inked a few issues and they were all noticeably much worse than the ones done by the other guy. I am really looking forward to seeing Jeff Moy's pencils on this book again but I am going to be really annoyed if they're let down by sub-par inking again.

Weren't Jed and Tayla killed in the Khund Wars? I definitely don't want them somewhere else where they'll be fodder. Dragonwing looked more alien, didn't she? And if she's that ready to kill, even after the fighting stopped, why is she in the Legion Academy? Everyone in the known galaxy must know that the Legion doesn't allow killing.
