Here it is! Spoilers ahoy, mateys!

OK, I was willing to dismiss prior arguments about Gim's portrayal as an incompetent goof, but even I have to say this is getting ridiculous.

Also, the alternate cover has Quislet on it, so that's a very good sign.

Only a year in and I'm already bored. Not a good sign. The best thing happening for the Legion was Jimenez and now he's going. The regular Legion title is just feeling 'generic', from the writing to the art, which is the last thing it needs after multiple reboots. Come on team, crank it up!

As one of the biggest Gim fans out there, I actually don't mind the pretty inept showing he's had in the book so far. At least he's making regular appearances. Which is more than I can say for lots of the other MIA members. I'd like to think his clumsiness is a story leading somewhere though... but I doubt it.

Count me in as not a fan of the bloody opening. Since when did being a boring kill-machine make for an interesting LSV member Paul? All those interestingly-powered and interestingly-visualed characters that you and other writers have come up with in the past, and this run has brought us a generic evil kill-robot, a generic evil kill-lady and a generic evil kill-monster. None of which are interesting to look at or read about IMO.

I'm willing to wait out a few more issues... but I'm also really starting to miss Geoff Johns' work with this team. I know posters around here didn't like it, but at least it was fresh and exciting. And had great art.

I agree with everything you said except the part about Phil Jiminez "going"? This is something you know or just speculating because his name is absent from one issue? If it's the former - spill the details please. If it's the latter - no need to be all 'The sky's falling' just because an artist misses one issue. It'll just create unnecessary consternation in fandom.

The main book is dragging and getting more and more boring. The artwork is taking a steep nosedive lately. I really wish someone would put more effort into this book. Talk about massive decompression storytelling. File under snooze. I prefer Adventure Comics over this title. DC, make Jimenez the main artist.

Lightning Lord seems to be following Saturn Queen's inane 'kill everyone, take the winners' style of LSV recruitment.

Meh. I guess if they had good judgement, they wouldn't spend half their lives in and out of prison.

I'm starting to wonder if Colossal Boy is brain damaged?

@Blacula- Phil's name is missing from the credits of the next two issues of Adventure Comics, the second of which is the conclusion of the Legion Academy story arc according to the solicits.

Dan DiDio has stated, according to newsarama.com & Comic Shop News, that after this Legion Academy story arc, Adventure Comics will be featuring characters from Brightest Day who are not popular enough to sustain their own title.

Now there'a a recipe for success.

You're right, maybe I'm jumping the gun, but the solicitation for 526 reads "The conclusion to Paul Levitz and Phil Jimenez's "Legion Academy" arc!" and the following TWO issues are Jimenez-less. I also read that DC pulled him to do other projects, but that was just on a message board somewhere, so does't necessarily mean its true. I really hope its not and he's just taking a short break before he comes back to us. I'm not gonna hold my breath though...

^ Atta totally reminds me of Reboot Empress too. I thought Reboot Empress was OKish but I wasn't clamouring for her return or anything. Especially not in the form of this uninteresting new character, Atta.

Re: Phil and Adventure - I forgot he was absent from two issues. /glass half full/ That could still mean he's taking a break to get a head start on the next arc? If he's absent from the next issue too - then I'll start worrying.

As for Brightest Day characters taking over Adventure -

* Aquaman would have been the obvious candidate given his historical ties to this book (which are truly excellent by the way - I think the Aparo Aquaman Adventure run is due out in TPB soon and I recommend everyone pick it up. Lots of great stories in there. Even if it did lay the groundwork for all the child/baby-killing that would become an "entertainment" staple in modern DC comics) but we know he's getting his own series by Geoff Johns.
* Hawkman is rumoured to be getting his own series by James Robinson and Philip Tan.
* I guess that just leaves Firestorm and Martian Manhunter as Brightest Day regulars who could get this book. I can't really see either one under this banner for some reason. Though I like both those characters so I'd continue to buy it if one of them did.

It would be a shame to lose this story/team if we do though 'cause it's light-years better than the main one.

Well one thing's for sure, if Adventure is losing the Legion, it is losing me the same instant ...

As for the Preview, it was okay, but not as good as the last two issues. I thought the LSV Special was brilliant, one of the best Legion books since the Deboot, and the following regular issue was keeping the excitement. To me, this feels kind of satisfying in a very classic way: The danger is rising, and I fear for my Legionnaires. If the writers manage to make me care that way, they are doing something right... though what I really wouldn't mind right now would be a group shot to finally get an overview who exactly is on the team and who is not. With the whole 21st century conundrum, I'm still having trouble to place the less popular members... give me a big "Long Live the Legion" team shot, and I'm happy

Good issue. Tinya and Ayla kicking butt, Earth Man getting owned, a lot of subplots moving forward, and Mon-El on the trail of the blue flame.

Bit of a letdown that NONE of the Legionnaires on the variant cover are actually in the book.

Ooh, this sounds promising! Particularly the bits about Tinya and Ayla, and Earth-Man!

You're forgetting one important character: Deadman. I don't know yet if the final plan is to bring Boston Brand back to death or not, but if it is, he could be a candidate. He was a regular feature in Adventure during the title's short run as a Dollar Comic (I still miss that format), so a placement in the book is not entirely unprecedented.

If anything BD-related were to boot the Legion Academy out of Adventure (and I sincerely hope that doesn't happen), I could only hope it would be a new Deadman series written and drawn by Neal Adams. I still consider his original Strange Adventures run to be among the top 5 comics series in history.

^ Good call about Deadman. I had forgotten about him and you're right - he does have history under the Adventure banner. I could imagine him taking over this book. I'm not sure I'd continue to buy it if so though as I'm not really the biggest Deadman fan in the world (never read any of his seminal stories though).

Wasn't there talk at one point that if the Legion Academy arc went over well that it would move out of adventure and get it's own title?

Yeah, that was pretty dumb of him. He can't always assume he can copy his opponent's powers. A few hours in a coma will teach him to be more careful... assuming he survives. And I was curious about whether he could absorb magic power (or whatever the blue baby counts as).

I remember that too. So I don't view Adventure Comics doing something new as a sign that we won't get more Academy stories.

The LSV story is moving along at a good clip. The lineup is good and villains are being given as much personality as the heroes.

I see Colossal Boy's frequent butt kickings as a sign of toughness instead of weakness. He's being consistently shown as one of the first Legionnaire's into the fray. No hesitation. He takes his lumps, recovers in time for the next issue, and jumps headlong into danger's way again. His attitude remains in check. Keep fighting, Gim.

Cinar continues to grow and impress. The action scenes looked great and he is becoming a master of faces and expressions. Most of the major players got a close up this issue that showed you exactly what they were feeling.

I'm wondering what pages of plots Paul tore up after Mon-el was elected leader? It doesn't appear like he's leading the team.
