Director Lad Active Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 785 Ventura, CA	In mid-January I will be joining your ranks by moving in with a friend of mine in Van Nuys. Since I'll be coming in relatively ignorant of the area, I'm soliciting suggestions as to which comic book shop in the LA area I should bring my business to. Also, any other words of wisdom you think will help a transplanted Northeasterner acclimate to the Southern California way of life.

I'd love to help by heartily recommending Gail Burt and her stellar crew at my own local store, Metropolis Comics in Bellflower ... but that's across the L.A. basin from Van Nuys and the San Fernando Valley. So others will have to suggest. Golden Apple Comics has a great rep. As to other advice: Get a "Thomas Guide" map-book for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties (in light of where you're living), immediately upon arrival, and keep it in your car at all times. You cannot navigate this twisted nightmare of local streets, arteries, freeways, and hundreds of municipalities without one.

I'm sure I'll stop by for a visit from time to time, but not so sure I could make it my weekly stop. We'll see though. Thanks for the note about the Thomas guide. That reinforces what I've heard from several people. A guy I know who just moved back from LA had offered to give me his, but it never materialized. Oh well.
