I don't know if you're watching this show or not. If not, then SHAME ON YOU!!!!
Think Anti-American Idol. In short, they're lookin' for the worst of the worst. And brother, there are some out there that make William Hung actually sound like Ricky Martin. >shudder<
It's a big hoax. They claim to be looking for the best of the best, but what they are REALLY looking for is just the opposite. And that's how they select the people. If you're good, you're booted. If you're bad, off-key, forgetting your whole song, got big bouncy things, audition naked, whatever ...... well, THEN you're what Superstar USA is lookin' for!!
Anyway, they've picked the worst 12 of the bunch. Friday night is a two hour program, and if last night and tonight were any indication, it should be a blast!!!
I will admit to feeling a little guilty, at least initially, about watching [and enjoying] this type of hoax. But it's almost waaaaaayyyy over the top. And OH MY STARS!!!!! To listen to some of these people talk?? It's just SCARY!! They're just absolutely DELUSIONAL!!!! They're gonna just WOW the world with their voice. They're beautiful. They're wonderful. They have a God-given talent that MUST be shared with the world.
MY GOSH!!! SOME OF THESE PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE THEY CAN SING!! And they're NOT afraid to admit it!!
Anyway, give it a shot on Friday just to see what it's like, if you have a chance. It's bad. But it's some funny stuff, too.
It's time for bed, now. G'night, folks!!
----- PS - This is 100.

I opted against watching this strictly because of the fact that the contestants don't realize they are being made fools of. It's one thing if they know from the start that it's a no-talent contest. I think to purposefully make fools of these people is disgusting. So what if they think they are good but they really aren't... I don't think that's any reason to lie to them and humiliate them on national television.
It's kind of like Boy Meets Boy. Poor James goes on this show, looking for love or looking for fame, who knows? In any case, he was told that all of the guys were gay, or at least that was the assumption. Then, once he had eliminated most of the guys, he finds out that some of the men competing were actually straight, and some of the men left might be straight. What a cruel twist.
I suppose you can argue that just by appearing on one of these "reality" shows you are opening yourself up for public humiliation and deserve whatever you get. However, I think that the contestants should have all of the facts ahead of time, and let them decide if it's worth the price.
Some people are like slinkys: not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you knock them down a flight of stairs

Oh dear. Just caught my first (half-) episode of this. How long has it been going on? Our WB affiliate here is so spastic.
Okay... I saw 4 of the 8 singers perform, and they were all quite horrendous, but only 1 of the 4 I saw advanced to the final 4. This makes me shudder to think how bad the performances I missed must have been.
I was wondering how they could possibly think it ISN'T a joke, but now I know-- thay haven't been allowed to see each other perform yet.
Very sneaky. These guys will need therapy when this is done.

It's weird to be GLAD when they're booted. That means they AREN'T the worst. It's nucking futs!
Maybe this will fill for me a tiny smidgen of the void left by AI ending last week.

I've tried watching it. I also think it's just too mean.

It is mean I also found the Swan very disturbing in that we have created an image that women feel they need to measure up to. You can be beautiful and not be a size 4.

I've never been bitten by the singing competition or physical makeover bugs. Other varieties of reality show insects have sunk their teeth (mandibles?) in, however.
I'm looking forward to THE AMAZING RACE in July. Also, the new ROAD RULES will get a try from me. The last cast of REAL WORLD kept me from watching this last season of the grandaddy of all reality shows.
And the novelty of those RR/RW cast competitions has worn off. Some of these people have become even *more* unpleasant with time.

With all of my regular shows on hiatus for the summer, it's probably the only thing on TV I'll be watching. I like the unpredictability of it all -- that any team could be the next to go, if they have a bad day or get stuck at the airport. I also like the fact that it's sort of like Travel Channel-Lite... you get a lot of quick-hit exposure to different countries, places, and cultures. Great for the armchair traveler.

Well, I was glad they let Frank go the first night. He seems like a sweetheart. Then again, that was before he came out on stage in 6" heels. :-\ (Although, I wouldn't mind seing more of him .... maybe he could get in to choreography or somthing???)
There's one girl on there that apparently has a difficult time with the english language. It's all I can do to read her lips when she talks. And when she sings??? I have to rely on the music to tell what it is. I have a feeling she'll go all the way.
One of the funniest ones is Jamie. She writes the lyrics on her hand and reads it while she's performing. But she thinks nobody can tell.
Oh well. I'm thinkin' SOME of them have to know it's a joke. I mean, hadn't somebody, a friend or family member, actually taped some of these yahoos and forced 'em to sit and listen to it??
Now, ONE of the performers on the fist night kicked 7 kinds of major butt with "Ache-y Break-y Heart"!!!!!! Apparently the judges were stunned!!! So she got booted. *sigh*
Thing is, I think a couple of the people have pretty good voices. Maybe if they had a bit of training and coaching, I think maybe two of 'em could actually do something. Probably not a recording contract or anything. But possibly a musical or something along those lines. Well, what do I know?
Anyhoo ....... there's a really sick, sadistic side of me that wants to see the two "top" performers sing the duet just to catch the reaction.
I know, I know ...... I need help.

So what's the reveal going to be for "Superstar"? When they win, the judges say "oh, by the way, we really think you suck!" and boo the person off the stage? Are they going to dump a bucket of pig's blood over them a la "Carrie"? And you know they're not going to want to be too mean so they'll give them a bunch of cash or something.
