The Dick Van Dyke Show (possibly the funniest show ever????)
Star Trek Battlestar Galactica CSI Trading Spaces Remington Steele Sports Night
(and believe it or not.....) The Client Second Noah (both of which should have remained on the air ... both quite good and you could watch either with any generation of people!!!)
You can never quit believiing in your dreams ... or yourself. ----- You GOTTA listen to Levi Kreis.

Whoa. My favorite shows of ALL TIME!!! EEK! In the interest of supporting shows that will actually do WELL in the poll, I won't say the Transformers.
The Simpsons, definitely. My #1 of all time. Star Trek: The Next Generation. God, I loved that show. Batman: The Animated Series. Best superhero cartoon of all time. Roseanne. So very many firsts in this show. Aaaand... I'm gonna go ahead and say Alias, just to give it some more props.
White. A blank page or canvas. His favorite. So... many... possibilities.

You know what I like about lists like this? Seeing others bring up shows that make you go, "Oh man! That should have been on my list." We really need to do two separate lists. One for Dramas and one for Comedies.
Rosanne, Soap and The Dick Van Dyke show would all be on my list.
Oh, and Are You Being Served would be at the top of the sitcom list.

Dramas ... (1) "My So-Called Life" (2) "Star Trek: TNG" (3) "The Paper Chase" (4) "Star Trek" original series -- first two years only (5) "The Waltons" -- with Richard Thomas only Comedies ... (1) "M*A*S*H" -- first three years only (2) "All in the Family" -- first five years only (3) "South Park" (4) "Keeping Up Appearances" (5) "Frasier" -- until Niles wooed Daphne I'd want to have those exceptions counted, if possible, but it isn't essential. Few shows avoid jumping the shark at some point during their full runs.

So Icey, can you break it up into Comedies, dramas & cable-only shows or what?
If so, I'll need to adjust my lists... and for the record:
Dramas:
DALLAS
DYNASTY
BEVERLY HILLS 90210
THE REAL WORLD (also falls into Cable-Only category)
DAWSON'S CREEK
THIS IS TOO HARD TO NARROW DOWN!!

Dramas Buffy Fantastic Journey (didn't last long, it was a sci fi show in the 70s) Knots Landing ER Dynasty
Comedies Cosby Alice One Day at a Time Friends and Happy Family? (I can't believe something this new is on my list, but it cracks me up)

Here's some off the top of my head:
<marquee behavior=alternate>Friends Seinfeld News Radio Star Trek: Voyager 24 Quantum Leap Moonlighting Remington Steele Justice League Whose Line? Batman (All of the Animated Series) Spider-man: The Animated Series The Simpsons</marquee>
The one thing these shows have in common is that if I were to come across them while "surfing", I wouldn't change the channel.

i knew i'd forget one !!!! Twin Peaks !!!!
this was great when it was on, but as it only ran for 2 seasons, perhaps it might have lost "something" by going on longer ??? so i'll still stay with my original 5 !!!
Matthew.

i just realised ....
i own all of the seasons on DVD of Star Trek: TNG, Ally McBeal and Sex And The City [ so far ... ] and have seasons 1 - 5 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer !!!
so i would say that's a good guide on how to define if it one of your favourite shows .... would you want to buy and own them on video / DVD !!!
Matthew.

Hmm.
In that case, I would have to add 3 more:
KING OF THE HILL
FUTURAMA
FAMILY GUY
Maybe animated shows need their own category too?

And if/when they are offered in full-season DVD format, I would/will buy:
STAR TREK (original series in FULL SEASON format ONLY!!)
TEEN TITANS
DARIA (I have 98-99% of the episodes on tape anyway)
ALICE
ROSANNE (is this out yet...?)

Well, the only DVD I have a TV series is Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I have Videos of Black Adder, Red Dwarf, Monty Python, Doctor Who, The Avengers, and Dark Shadows.
That said, here's a revised list broken into categories:
Dramas: The Avengers Perry Mason The Adventures of Superman (especially the Phyllis Coates season) Doctor Who (with Pertwee, the first 3 Tom Baker years, and Colin Baker) Homefront/Young Indiana Jones (tie)
Comedies: The Dick Van Dyke Show Monty Python's Flying Circus Black Adder Red Dwarf Good Neighbors
Limited Series: Tinker Tailor Solder Spy Brideshead Revisited I Claudius The Peter Wimsey Mysteries A Town Like Alice
As you can see, I like British TV a lot better than most US stuff, and the US stuff I like is mainly from my childhood. I don't watch a single prime time network show these days.
