Hi, everyone.
I think I'm finally going to break down and consider upgrading to a smart phone ... one of those combo cell phone/pda-like thingies.
I'm open to suggestions.
I went in and checked on one today at the Cingular store, but I found out when I got home that what he recommend-- a Blackjack-- wouldn't allow me to edit Word Files or Excel. And that's one of the things that I want to be able to do.
I'm still hoping to travel-- especially to San Diego next year!-- and with the supplies that I'm going to have to carry around for my diabetes-- a meter, medication, test strips-- I'm not going to have the room in my carry on bag that I used to have for my laptop.
So what I want to know is does anyone have a good recommendation for a Smart Phone?

Wish I could offer you insightful suggestions & recommendations buddy but, I've carried a Blackberry for well over a year now, and I've only just learned how to change the number of rings it gives before going to voice mail.
"Hey Jim! Get Mon out of the Zone!! And...when do we get Condo back?"

I just upgraded to the newest Blackberry Pearl. But the phone hasn't arrived yet. I know it has all the regular Blackberry functions but until they do a software upgrade it can't edit Word or Excel. Not sure I need editing capabilities for work but I do need the ability to read them and have access to my e-mail at all hours.

I want to use my cell phone to write down what I'm eating so I can keep track of my calories and carbs, so I definitely need one that can edit a Word file or some kind of text file at least.
The Blackjack was considerably cheaper than a Trio, but I'm not going to get one unless it can do text editing.

It should still have a Notepad function. I know that the Pearl does.

I'm sure the Blackjack has a text function just not the Office for Mobile. If you can type an Email or a SMS why not a text file. If you really need Office for Mobile and are tied to the Windows for Mobile Operating System I'd look at this site and do a search for devices for your preferred carrier. Windows Smartphones If you aren't picky about the Windows OS, there are phones that use the Symbian Operating System. Symbian is a joint venture of Nokia and Sony Ericsson (amongst others) so many of their smartphones carry the OS. These can work with Office files but you have to buy additional software, which is simple enough. I believe the Nokia line is called the 'E-Series'.

I'm going to check out some more cellphones from other places before I commit to one.
I read a horror story about Sprint though today.
I'd like to have office because I'd like to be able to transfer stuff from my phone to my PC.
A friend at work has an Iphone, and I gotta admit those are pretty sharp, but I have to say that the touch screen is not something that I'd like. It seems to me that all that touching makes it look kinda dingy ... like a window that's been smudged by too many hands.

Posting this from my new BlackBerry Pearl 8100. The text entry is the best I've ever seen from a mobile device that doesn't have a full keyboard, hands down.

So I've heard about 3G and EV DO. Anyone know which is more prevalent? Or likely to be?
