Okay, an automatic update gave me Internet Explorer 8, which promptly made it impossible to get onto the internet with my computer.
So, the wife and I are ditching it in favor of a browser that actually works. I'm also switching from google as a search engine since they went all ads on me to dogpile or something.
But, Safari looks pretty simple, while Firefox seems to have a few more bells and whistles.
You guy are techno-informed, which works best for you?

To be honest, I have both. Some days, one of them wants to be all weird, and the other one doesn't. No, I don't know why. (I'm a MacHound. ) I find the main difference is that Firefox seems to upgrade more often, FWIW. You mentioned elsewhere that you don't have credit cards, but if you do any online transactions with giant MegaCorps at all, my advice is to save your Explorer, just in case. (Somebody at Microsponge may be able to tell you why it's not behaving w/your current specs-- is that what the kids say these days? "Specs?") A couple of Megacorps I am bound to by the short hairs (Don't ask) insist on having systems that work only with Explorer. I keep it around, but never use it for anything else.
Hey, Kids! My "Cranky and Kitschy" collage art is now viewable on DeviantArt! Drop by and tell me that I sent you. *updated often!*

My experience is similar to cleome's. I rarely have any problems with explorer but then I'm on dial-up so I keep a lot of "features" turned off. I'm sure I've missed out on things such as POV's avatar doing a strip tease and such, but I sleep better at night knowing my computer hasn't automatically downloaded and began implementing a plan to steal my credit.

I've used Firefox forever now and rarely have any trouble with it. Haven't tried safari though, I may have to give it a whirl. In the past I did try several different browsers and (strangely enough) one that I liked was RealPlayer. It's been a long time since I've used it so I don't think I could safely recommend it these days.

Go with firefox. It works fairly well though I think they dropped the ball with the 3.x releases. It's getting as fat as IE.
3.5 is due in a month or so and it's going to break my system. My fingerprint reader support is already wonky with the 3.0 release. Safari doesn't support any of this stuff.
IE 8 is actually finally on par with firefox in terms of security. It is fat though, I disabled all the new security features to save Ram on my notebook.
I actually can't wait to get a new system with enough ram to run Windows 7 and IE8 decently.

I use Firefox, mostly because of AdBlock, but I held off on the 3.0 release as much as possible - and eventually got jumped into it, because the "We Want You To Upgrade" box came up just as I hit "Return" for an unrelated reason. It took me about six hours to knock it into a shape I could live with. And the file upload idiocy (if anyone wants to vote that bug up, please do...) still annoys me to this day.

The file upload thing...is that the box that pops up with all the downloads that you have done? I had to do one to view something, and I needed an adobe upgrade on my flash viewer thingie. The box came up and every download was still in it.

Love Firefox. No problems with it running on my new iMac or the old eMac.
The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.

Google now has a browser too so I went ahead and downloaded Google Chrome to try it out. It seems ok but I've been using Firefox for so long that it's a little confusing. However I shall "endeavor to persevere", I'll go ahead and use it for a few days and see if I can figure out what it has to offer that I might like.

Google chrome messed up my dads computer. But, he's on dial up. Might not be a problem on later versions of the software and high speed, I don't know.

Hey folks, does anyone know exactly HOW you create new folders in the Firefox bookmark section and transfer your bookmarks into the folders? I've tried a search and it just goes wonky on me.
Thanks.

New Folder: Click bookmarks, move the cursor down a bit and right click to get the "new folder" option.
Importing: it always crashes on me when I try to import my IE bookmarks. I get a few of them then...

My work computer still uses Internet Explorer and I can no longer take it's suckiness.
My home computers have Firefox and I'm pretty happy with it. Is there a quick link anyone knows for an easy download for it? It might be useful to have a link in this thread anyway...(...he says, knowing his laziness in searching on the internet for stuff is well known...)

The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

Google Chrome has become my preferred browser.
IE9 coming soon from Microsoft is also quite excellent. FF is okay but seems bloated and fat these days.
