I had been expecting this from the news reports of his ill health over the past several weeks, but still, it's a very saddening moment, as I bid farewell to my very favorite opera singer.

The world's very favorite opera singer. My mother and I had the fortune to see him at a benefit concert a few years back. Paid $150 a ticket, and still were in the nosebleeds. And he was not quite the vocal force he was in his prime. Still... so very worth it. He had such a special quality, an almost unearthly purity, in his voice. And he was such a great personality.

If heaven exists, the choir has a new tenor soloist today. God bless you and watch over your soul, Luciano.

White. A blank page or canvas. His favorite. So... many... possibilities.

Though I wasn't a big fan of his myself, I have a lot of respect for anyone who helps to make classical music seem accessible to people.

Through Pavarotti's singing, many people who might not have been exposed to opera got to know it as something to enjoy.

My parents went to see him in concert years ago and they said it was just an incredible experience.

Requisecat in pace.

The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."
