Spolier ......
#1 is out. I picked it up because I liked Michael Turners cover, but I also like the Supergirl character. I loved Peter Davids take and now we have Kara back. Now the issue was good..having the JSA is cool and Courtney asking questions and chit chatting was funny. Now Power Girl and Supergirls first meeting was a shocker. PG powers flip out and we learn they have been doing that since Supergirl showed up in Gotham. Well I have come to the conclusion that PG is Supergirl from another era, time etc. Thats why they acted like to magnets pushing against each other...Thats what I am sticking to..for now. I liked it.

I liked it too. I like Kara Zor-El, like this new version of her, and really like the way she's drawn with the midriff. It seems like a lot of the early stories will deal with her trying to find her 'identity', and while these early issues deal with the rest of the DCU, hopefully a large portion of it will deal with non-DCU powered heroes eventually (well, I'd prefer a constant connection to Supes and the Legion, but we'll see ). I'm very excited about the ongoing Power Girl story, which I have my own theories on. But in terms of this new Supergirl, I'm looking forward to it. I'd personally love it if 'Action Comics' could feature rotating stories with Superman, Supergirl and the Superman family also...but I'm satisfied with Kara Zor-El having her own book.

I like the idea of a Superman Family type book again as well. Even if it was quarterly.

I was surprised how much i liked it. I'd never bought a Churchill drawn book before. I dislike the costume though.
I can't see that Kara would ever be strongly attached to the Legion again. As I said in Cobie's social consequences thread the Legion was hero school for old Kara where she had friends and heroic role models (especially female, important in pre-feminist America). She took her lead as much from them as her cousin back then.
Loeb has replaced the Legion and the 30th century with the Amazons and Themyscra. Wonder Woman takes the place of Saturn Girl as the lead female role model. He's even kept the "secret weapon" aspects of the earlier version with the Calculator trying to find out more about her for the villains. I think Loeb's done a pretty good job modernizing things from SGs early silver age mythos.

Looks like that those three top super-powered girls of the DC Universe are going to be the stars in many many books - Power Girl, Supergirl, and Donna Troy - during the month of November. Nice!!

I read # 0 and 1 last night.
Pretty hot stuff. JSA! Teen Titans! Sexy art! Connor barefoot! Kara's bellybutton!
Yes, based on these 2 issues, the standard trial run will quickly become a permanent add to my pull list.

The #0 issue pissed me off when I realized it was just a reprint of S/B #19. Not as much as if I'd actually bought it, but still. And After the second printing's Turner skethc cover, they're going with an all-new one for the 3rd... an homage by Churchill to Action 252! Aaaaaaaaaaaargh! If the regular cover... heck, the regular ART... was this good, I'd be a regular buyer! Looks like I'll be buying this and putting my 1st printing with the Turner cover (I didn't ask for it, DCBS sent it to me! ) up on eBay...

Yup. I love this cover enough to buy the book again for the third time. I'm weak and easily entertained.

I may have to buy that just to reward DC for showing signs of humor again.

I love this cover. I think I commented in another thread that I didn't think Churchill had it in him.

I just saw that cover - how come Batman's costume has reverted to the Earth-2 version?

A kickass cover and a side of DC I hope to see more of.
LAM- that costume stems from an arc in Superman/Batman where Batman is wearing an underwater costume, which is what he has on when he finds Kara. The costume itself is definately an homage to the Earth-2 one, although there is no direct mention of that.

#2's out...

... This usually isn't the kind of thing I like to concentrate upon, but I really noticed that if a casual reader picked up this title, they'd be totally lost. Not good for #2 of a new series, I would've thought.
Is this Supergirl like living Kryptonite? She disrupts Power Girl's abilities... and now Superboy's. I wonder if the truth behind these fluctuations will be found in Starfire's 'answers' that she promises in her last-page appearance.
Basically, this is a set-up for fight scenes between Kara and Connor, the Titans and Wonder Girl, in particular. There're some nice moments and pacing within the fights... but it all went by *very* quickly. Superboy's problems with the Titans really should've been handled in their series-- though as a reader of that book, I liked the inching forward of that subplot.
Still, I enjoyed this a heck of a lot more than the early series of Supergirl's near-peer (DC title numeration-wise), GREEN LANTERN.

the art is a complete turnoff for me
i'm not sure why, but it's almost too-big on the page ... not enough panels on the page -- feels skimpy

I read # 2.
Though the art is obviously of the Liefeld/old-scgool IMAGE variety, I find it a lot more pleasing to my eye than Liefeld's; I like it, despite the legs sometimes looking impossibly long And stuff.
Groovin' to the Wonder-jealous hissy. Heck, I'd have gone ape too-- hot boyfriend runs off-- you find him barefoot in cornfield with super-babe; must kick ass! totaly feelin' the Cass-ter.
BLACK kryptonite...? Color me intrigued!

I dunno about this issue. I Jeph, don't get me wrong, but I felt like the Titans were a bit... off. Cyborg was waaaaay aggressive and wtf with Gar being all tight with Kon?? Uhm, maybe I missed that issue...? Seemed like they were trying to tie him to Terra too much. It was gross. I'm curious about Starfire, especially since at this point in continuity she's not a Titan anymore. How would Bart know to get Kory as well as Tim?? Or how did Tim know that Kory needed to see Kara?? Or... my head hurts a li'l. Still enjoying the series, though!! Guess I'm just picky about my Titans...

Remember : It's not technically a suckerpunch if you yell ''DEFEND YOURSELF SPROCKER!'' two seconds before you let him have it.

Ok, far-out prediction time.
Supergirl is going to turn evil.
That's right. All of this is just a big setup for Infinite Crisis where it will be revealed that she is really an evil tool for whoever the main baddie will be (Anti-Monitor? Lex?) I can't really put my finger on why I feel this, I jsut do. I think part of it is that there seems to be so much time spent in these early issues to get Supergirl to meet ther est of the DCU when we should be exploring her personality and setting up a supporting cast.
Something else else about her just seems so off. Her past is too vague and muddled. As a poster on the DC boards put it, she's DC's version of Brittany Spears. She's evil I tell ya', evil!! And she'll probably kill a hero or two before it's all over.
But DC just started a series about her you say! Why kill her off when she just got her own ongoing? Well, I think this is all part of DC's master plan in setting us up big time. After IC is over with, either her series will be replaced or Power Girl will fill in right where the evil-Supergirl left off.

I'm inclinded to agree with you. And I'm casting my lots for Darkseid and Luthor being the architects right behind IC right now. It was Darkseid who's Furies killed of Harbinger, remember? Jamie

Then, Power Girl is revealed to be the Supergirl who was thought to have died during Crisis, and she takes over the book!

...and for some reason I keep thinking of evil lesbian Raven. Dunno why...
So, Supergirl's got a crush on Nightwing (who's currently Renegade, but that's another story)? Back of the line, blondie! Oracle, Starfire, Ravager, some mafia chick and Roy Harper are all ahead of you.
I thought the Supergirl-crushing-on-Dick (go ahead, I'll wait) scene was pretty lame. I wish the character of Supergirl was spending more time with the teams comprising her whirlwind tour of the DCU. The rushed nature of her encounters works against the premise, I feel.
Infinity Crisis is probably the explanation.

Every other writer in the DCU has been ignoring Devin's storyline, so if Nightwing showed up in this issue dressed in his normal duds, it's nothing new. I'm wagering they'll try to pass off the current NW storyline as happening before all this, but I won't buy it if they do.

I am not digging the first two issues. The only thing I like is she is hanging out with amazons. I'm a Wonder Woman fan.

'Kay, so Churchill's art is all extend-ey and stuff; I still like it a lot. His Outsiders were pretty hot!
I enjoyed # 3 and am looking forward to DARK SUPERGIRL!
