Is there anyone one here that's a fan of that show? I was obsessed with it when I was a kid. I didn't know there was a box set coming out until I saw the ad in X-Factor last week. Kind of took me out of the story, but for this I don't mind. I'm hoping some one gets me a gift card I can buy this with. There's only a slight chance of finding it under the tree, unfortunately, since I found out about it so late.

I've been told there are some great extras included but have not had the chance to pick it up yet. *[shameless plug]Had you been checking the Calendar at Go! Figure you would have known.[/shameless plug] Speaking of the Calendar, I'll be posting the 2007 convention season over the next few days. If any one sees something I missed in 2006 please let me know through one of my emails

I loved that cartoon as a kid (or an early teen... I think I was older when it was on). I'm not sure if I've seen all the episodes or not... the listing I saw looked like there might have been more than I remember.
I'll most likely at least rent it from Netflix, and maybe buy it if it's as good as I remember.

A friend of mine got this recently, having been a big fan of the show. He said the extras were pretty good, including the dragon figurine and the book giving modern day D&D stats for all the characters.
I may ask to borrow his copy to see what the fuss is about. I never saw the show.

I will definitely be getting this sometime soon. I have been waiting for this to come out for years, and am glad it has finally arrived! I loved the show when I was younger, and can't wait to see it again!

Me, too. I'm really surprised how excited I am about this. I had a devil of a time getting it to come in on my television when I was a kid. It'll be great to see it the way it's meant to be seen.

Crap. I didn't get this for Christmas. Gonna be a long wait till my birthday in May - although, maybe it'll be cheaper then.

Amazon has it for only $36.99 with free shipping. Not sure, though, how that would work for Canada.

I don't know either, but I think I'll try Futureshop first. It's usually pretty good.

Um...if you get it Arachne, can I come over? Please? I won't even make the obnoxious Uni noise I like to make when he is on-screen. Gonna be a long wait till May, I can tell you. Maybe I need to clean more - I usually find money then...

I'm afraid it'd be an awful long walk to my place. I did get it at Best Buy. I don't want to try that again anytime soon. It was really crowded and the line up was huge. I think I got the last copy they had. I haven't watched it yet. After a day of Boxing Day shopping, I jsut wanted some quiet for awhile.

LOL! I am still walking, Arachne. I am almost to Ohio...how far to your place? (Don't tell my wife where I am! She'll be really pissed!)
Just let me say, I am really jealous - I wanna see these so bad!

I lived this show for 3 years! I was 7 I think and my sister was 2 or 3. We used to run around in the woods pretending we were these characters. I wrote a whole entry about it in my blog on Nov. 8th http://wndola.livejournal.com/6822.html See if you read my blog you wouldn't have to wait till X-Factor. It was backorder though and I didn't get it till last weekend, but I totally O.D.ed on it. My husband is a few years older and I don't think he sees it the same way though. It was such a wonderful flashback I almost cried. You know I saw the european version about a year ago in Amoeba Records and I seriously considered buying a regionless dvd player just to watch it... well that and the Initial D movie.

I'm still on the first disc, since I've got a lot of things I should be doing, but I'm really loving it. I came close to crying too, though. Valley of the Unicorns kinda got too me. I was a little disapointed with the first episode, but after listening to the commentary for that ep, I had to agree with them that it was better to err on the side of simplicity while they were trying to get picked up.

I've been watching the first few episodes of this show off and on over the past week. It had been a while since I gave this DVD set a spin, and all I can say is...WOW!! Actually, I can say more than that. I'm amazed at the wonderful phantasmagoria of characters and creatures, thrills, chills, and spills, that they got past the censors. IIRC, even with what they did get away with, the show was very controversial in its day (1983-1985). I can certainly see why. This is a really good quality DVD set, with vivid colors and good sound, and great extras. I believe the company that released it went out of business. Sorry to anyone who didn't get it when they had the chance, but maybe you can still find a used copy on the internet. Some more thoughts: - Unlike some people, I adore Uni, even when she makes her funny noises. Yes, that's right, Uni's a she, even though she was voiced by a guy (the great Frank Welker to be exact.) - The year after this show premiered, Peter Cullen (the voice of recurring D&D villain Venger) and Frank Welker would find themselves on the opposite sides of the good/evil equation, in their most famous roles as Optimus Prime and Megatron on the original Transformers cartoon! - The pilot was developed by animation veteran Dennis Marks (Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends), but heavily revised by Mark Evanier (to list his most notable showbiz accomplishment would take too long to choose. Just visit his website and/or his blog.) As Arachne noted above, Evanier simplified the original concept and pared down the cast. - Story editor for Season 1 was the late, great Steve Gerber, who also wrote my favorite Season 1 episode, "Prison Without Walls" (which I haven't gotten to yet.) Other notable Season 1 writers were Paul Dini and Buzz Dixon. Most Season 1 episodes, though, were written by the erratic Jeffrey Scott, whose output ranged from the sublime (Challenge of the Super Friends) to the ridiculous (Pac-Man). The next episode I'm going to see is Scott's first. Hopefully it'll be decent.

I never did make it to Arachne's, by the way...
I did order this a few years back. I bought the cheap version off Amazon for 7 bucks.
I still love watching it. The animation is not nearly as good as I thought, though, but the stories are wonderful.

Unrelated to the DVD, I got some rain down the back of my neck the other day. According to the person I was with, this brought out a sound like a distressed Uni from the show. I'm torn between pride and embarras...no, it's pride

I loved this show as a kid, so that makes me want to never rewatch it as an adult. I have a feeling it won't hold up. My memories are pretty vivid and good enough. (also, I hated Uni and I could never really not think of Ralph Malph when Cavalier spoke)
