Character rundown of the new upcoming animated "Transformers": http://tformers.com/transformers-transformers-animated-television/8729/news.html Not quite the old days, but definitely an update of G1 rather than some of the other tangents. Do the character descriptions of the Autobot lineup remind anyone else of the A.B.C. Warriors?

It's a step back in the right direction, but...
Yeah, there is something very ABC Warriors about them. And as much as I like the ABC Warriors, I don't want anti-hero Autobots. I don't want a cantankerous Ratchet, I want Ratchet as the gentle doctor who talks like Papa Smurf (literally -- Don Messick voiced both characters, and I really do think they sound similar.)
As much as I generally loathe nostalgia, I will freely admit that I'm an incorrigible nostalgist for the G1 Transformers cartoon. The only way they'd get business from me would be if they deliberately did a nostalgic homage to the old cartoon (like maybe a five-part miniseries.) But I know there's almost no chance of that happening.

I didn't like the artwork, but I didn't with the initial previews of Teen Titans either.
Just spouting off.

Prowl was my favorite of the G1 and while the new version isn't very much the same, I was a big fan of Joe Pineapples from A.B.C. Warriors, so the fact that Prowl has become the "Joe Pineapples" of the new Transformers works for me!
Desription of Prowl: PROWL is dark, sleek, agile, mysterious, and the ninja of the team. He speaks only when he has to, and even then as briefly as possible. Of all the AUTOBOTS, he’s the most skilled in direct combat. A natural spy, PROWL can infiltrate most any location unseen and unheard, so he’s used for reconnaissance more than any other Autobot. He is a bot of very little talk and much action. He’s unflappable, precise and has developed a keen interest in organic life.
Let's hope Prowl's "keen interest in organic life" doesn't lead him to the same place it did with Joe though (not that I have anything against transvestites, but I'm not sure it'd fly in a kids' cartoon...)

I once plotted (but never got around to writing) a G1 Transformers fanfic where Tracks becomes an organic woman and decides s/he is happier that way. I guess it was a case of me taking my identification with Tracks to the extreme. LOL

I seem to remember a G2 episode where the Rodimus and Springer et al were turned into people -- is that right? How'd that even happen?

Only Human, one of my favorite episodes.
The whole concept is shaky "cartoon science" that boils down to somehow transferring their essences into synthetic humanoid bodies, leaving their robot bodies empty shells for the villains to control.
But there's so much to like about this episode: great lines (Rodimus-as-human tries coffee for the first time and says, "Ugh! Smells better than it tastes.") and G.I. Joe references (one of the villains is Cobra Commander, which is especially nice because it means that he reversed his snake mutation in G.I. Joe The Movie; and the synthetic humanoid technology was introduced in a classic 2-part G.I. Joe episode, written by my heroine Christy Marx.)

So in other news I was able to get that night off and view the premiere. I liked it for the most part. I'll post more detailed thoughts later when I have more time.

I managed to look at the premiere of TF animated via a secondary media so it was in many parts. Beforehand I wasn't sure about the style but it looks better in motion and the storywriting is more then okay. The characters are interesting and diverse and the good guys have to learn how to work as a team much like the good guys in Beast Wars. This Prime is like a cross between Galaxy Force Optimus and Optimus Primal from BW.

saw it this morning on CN,...wasn't blown away by it but if the stories are good *since they wont only be fighting the Decepticons* i'll give it a chance. did anyone notice that the police captian looked and sounded like NYPD Blue's Andy Sipowicz?

It was a pretty good start. I liked how they showed a young Optimus - not yet the battle-hardened soldier, but definitely the heart of a leader. Between swinging on the grapling hook and the "gunk shooter", he was getting a little too "Spider-Man" for my tastes. Interesting that they were described as "super-heroes". (my but aren't those popular these days) -- Also liked the Omega reference -- when their ship gets dredged up and fully powered, I fully expect some Omega Supreme action! -- I wonder how much of the old war had been conceived. Will we ever see some of the older bots? -- I like the slow buildup to reviving Megatron. I wonder when/how he'll come back to life?
