Was it Giffen who developed the actual Interlac language?

You mean the symbols? Yeah, they were Giffen's creation, along with the Mission Monitor Symbols for each Legionnaire.

Cheers, EDE!
I liked how the lingo was integrated so that various - and often funny - messages popped up in various later Legion stories. Any chance it might be updated in the 31st century?

I loved the interlac cuss words, too, such as "nass," "squaj," and especially "grife." In fact--and I do realize that this makes me a super-geek--I ocassionally find myself using the latter word when something disgusts me (when I'm alone, at least). Hmmm. I wonder why I'm not married yet?

Oh, my Gawn, that's right. How could I be such a moop by forgetting the word "frak?"

"Scrofulus" goes way back before the 30th century, reports Dictionary Lass. At least Interlac script has made it into the 31st century, along with the untranslateable language(s) of Projectra and Inklings. New additions to the Interlac word-list would certainly be welcome, although this might further hinder Mediocre Boy's chances for matrimonial bliss.

Actually the concept of "Interlac" was first introduced by the late great E. Nelson Bridwell, as the language spoken by the Wonder Twins in the SUPERFRIENDS comic book back in the seventies, long before Giffen designed the symbols.

Actually, I'm pretty certain "Interlac" is actually a fairly common name in science fiction for the "intergalactic language".

Now I remember where I heard "Interlac" before - Many thanks for the info, Korbal!
