Did anyone catch that a few nights ago? What did you think? I was kind of disappointed really. Not too much more insight into the behind the scenes. Of course I still watched the whole thing. Has it been on before, and I just missed it?
I just can't BLOK it out!

It was the first broadcast. It was actually a condensed version of the main documentary feature that will be included with the DVD set that's out next week. I did get a laugh out of William Katt as Luke. I don't know that there'd have been much of a difference... It was also cool to see the original crawl without the Episode IV designation.

Seeing those guys bust their asses to film the special effects sequences for the little money and under the wire, it struck me that Lucas' reworking of epIV was a disservice to them and their achievements.

Yes, I did like the auditions. How weird would have been if Kurt Russell would have been Han Solo? I thinkk he probably would have been good. And does George Lucas get excited about anything? Kind of monotone boring...BUt what a mind!

Too bad that mind went AWOL while planning the last two films....
I thought it was pretty interesting. It got my wife watching, which is quite amazing considering her native resistance to all things dorky.
The only consistent feature of all of your dissatisfying relationships is you.
Don't judge me!

I didn't see the A&E special (will it be repeated soon?), but I did catch, earlier tonight, VH1's "When 'Star Wars' Ruled the World." (One of a series, fill in the blank before "Ruled".)
It was compact, an hour (with commercials), and had all the principals in rapid-fire commentary, along with video of the cultural phenomenon, and many on-the-set shots. Extremely entertaining.
I'm not sure that spinning this out from 50 minutes to 150 minutes would actually add that much -- aside from more outtakes and on-the-set material. Too much of a frame can overwhelm the artwork, so to speak.

Carrie Fisher sounds more and more like a truck driver every day. Of course, she used to hang out all alot with Penny Marshall... maybe the voice is just rubbing off

both docus were on this afternoon (Sunday), plus on A&E, George Lucas on Biography. While much was recap, therer was fun stuff, certsainly. I'd never seen the Katt/Russell clips before, f'rinstance.
They did collectively capture much more of the SW magic than the Boredom Menace did. Can't speak for Send in the Clones, never saw it. trailers + Ep 1 left too bad a taste, although the Italian trailers I saw in Rome that spring looked more enticing than the US ones.
The childhood friend Exnihil never had.

These documentaries are fun -- getting the inside scoop on such a phenomenon. One thing that struck me was Harrison Ford's recollection that when he first sat down in cockpit of the uncompleted Millenium Falcon, he asked how you fly this thing. No one had even thought that part of it through.
I also don't know which is scarier: Peter Mayhew with or without his makeup.

The A&E special was originally run at least 6 months ago. Good enough for a 2nd viewing! I got a kick out of the story that David Prowse was not given the correct dialogue to speak during the EMPIRE climax scene. Imagine, acting out a scene and not knowing what was really going on!
I thought Carrie Fisher was looking more like a LUSH these days. What's she been doing, hanging out with Liza Minelli?

I enjoyed it. Since I'm not a die hard SW fan there was a lot of material I'd never seen so it was worth blowing a little of my free time on. Yeah, seeing the Kurt Russel audition was pretty cool.
