My wife and I finally got around to getting the F&G DVD set yesterday. If I could I'd just stay home and do nothing but watch it until I couldn't stand it any more. Are there any other F&G fans here? I can't believe this show got cancelled so fast... stupid, stupid network people.
All 18 episodes (with 29 commetary tracks) plus deleted scenes, bloopers, auditions and who knows what else. I'm giddy! I want to go home now.

I think my favorite was Bill. He was so...so...well, what the hell was he?

Yeah, that was a great show. It almost makes me want to buy a DVD player...

One of the great things about the DVD's is that they went to the expense of liscensing all the music used in the original episodes. Considering one episode used about 6-7 songs by the Who it gives you an idea about the trouble & expense they had to go through. I can't think of many series that used contemporary music so well. The first scene of the series when the camera drifts down from the perfect Jock/Cheerleader couple sitting on the bleachers to the freaks hanging out under the bleachers while "Runnin' With the Devil" kicks in is just perfect. (My friends and I used to hang out under the bleachers during pep rallies and play cards... we were probably more geek than freak but whatever.)
On the other hand, I got my wife the Dawson's Creek season 3 set for her birthday and they replaced the theme song. It's not that I really need to hear that damn Paula Cole song ever again, but come on!

Bill is probably my favorite too. He seems the most aware of his "geekness" but never seemed to try to be anything but himself. Plus he got all the funniest lines.

You would think that I would have watched this series, being someone who was/is a geek and graduated in the early 80's. But I've not seen one episode. Maybe I'll rent them.

If you can find it for rental, get it. It's funny and poignant and I highly recommend it.
One good thing, it was cancelled early enough that they were able to do a pretty good job of tying up most of the threads so it hangs together pretty well taken as a whole.

I was sorely tempted to buy the DVD set when I saw it in the store the other day -- based almost entirely on good reviews I'd read. (No one I personally know has seen a single episode.)
What other TV shows would you compare it to? I'm trying to figure out whether I'm likely enough to enjoy it such that buying the whole set without ever having seen the show first would be a worthwhile investment...

And Stu, I'd say it's kinda like "That '70's Show" set in the '80's if it were done by the people who did "The Wonder Years" ... kinda

Sounds like a selling point to me Drake. I just hope that 'That '70's Show' does the same thing with their music when they go to DVD. Music really makes those kind of shows.

James Franco is one of the main characters, right? I think I remember seeing a few episodes with my g/f at school, and finding them pretty amusing.

James Franco was sort of the leader of the Freak kids. He played the slacker/stoner kid so well that I'm kind of surprised he didn't get typecast that way forever.
The show also featured Tom "Biff Tanner" Wilson as the gym coach. He was so good at it that I could probably look him in the eye and not start chanting "McFly!!!" and trying to knock him on top of his head.

Forgot to mention -- I got the DVD set a few weeks back and I'm really enjoying it!
And you know who Ken (Seth Rogen) reminds me of?
COBALT KID!

Did anyone get the "special edition" DVD set with the "yearbook"? I was tempted, but didn't want to spend that much for a show I'd never seen. Now I kind of wish I had...
