I'm sorry to read this.
I was never of huge fan of Dio's, but he represented the 1980s version of heavy metal better than anyone. "Rainbow In the Dark" will always stand out as one of the high points of that era.
Dio also sang lead on the first three Rainbow albums, and his medieval-themed lyrics helped define that group's early sound.

I wasn't a major fan either, but I admired him for never quitting or ending up in the pitfalls that derailed a lot of his contemporaries.
IIRC, he'd been singing in various groups since the late '50s, so his career really did encompass the history of rock 'n' roll.

He did a few songs that I liked from way back like Man on the Silver Mountain and I had no idea who he was. Just looked it up. Shame. Bit theatrical for my tastes in performing, but no denying his talent.
