Don't know if any of you watch ATWT, but it's breaking new ground in daytime television. A while back, teenager Luke Snyder (the son of one of the show's longtime couples) came out to his parents. Now, other soaps have had similar stories, but unlike the other soaps, ATWT is actually doing something with the character. Noah recently came to town, and Luke fell right in love with him. Mind you, Noah hasn't come out yet, but he is obviously interested. Well, today and Monday features a daytime first: Luke and Noah are going to share a kiss. I guess there was a segment on Entertainment Tonight the other night about it, and they featured a clip of the kiss. From what I have heard, it is awesome. I don't know where they will go from here, but kudos to ATWT for not just doing the coming out scene and then dropping the character, like so many other soaps have done. I can hardly wait to get home tonight to watch it unfold

This was my Mom's favorite soap during the sixties, and then again during the 80's. I remember she would watch it when I stayed home from school. She hasn't really watched it in years (over a decade), but that's pretty cool!

Well, it was nicely handled: kinda hot, without being over the top. I doubt that it gave too many grandmas heart attacks

After the Stewart sisters and their pornstardom and prostitution, I imagine any grandmas left are saying, "a gay kiss? That's nothing."
I got hooked on ATWT my senior year of college and have followed it ever since. The Luke story has been a good one- though told in very limited screen time compared to other current plots. Maybe that's about to change.
I don't know what it is, but the so-called 'summer storylines' all seem to begin about the time the viewers they're supposed to be catching have started back to school.
Don't any of these people have kids? Or know any?

I'm just thankful that the Cleo storyline is over. I hate lookalike stories.
They have been taking their time with Luke, which is both good and frustrating. He seems to appear one or two days a week. It wouldn't be so bad if any of the other current storylines were catching my interest, but since they're not I tend to scan through the episodes fairly quickly.

My mom hooked me on soaps as a young kid, and I watched the CBS soaps pretty faithfully until about 3-5 years ago. Last time I saw Luke, he was still a little kid, so they did the rapid-aging thing like with most soap kids.
Luke was Lily's child with Damien, right? Is Damien still alive and occasionally showing up? Damien was a hardcore Italian guy, and I bet he wouldn't react well to his son being gay. If Lily's still with Holden, I know Holden would be more supportive. But if Damien's still there or could potentially return...that would put some serious drama into Luke's story!
Didn't I hear that Susan Lucci character's daughter on her ABC soap came out as a lesbian a while back? I heard it was done really well. Or is it male homosexuality in particular you refer to as "making history"?
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

it was Erica Kane's (Susan Lucci) daughter on All My Children, that came out as a lesbian. as a kid i was raised on all the ABC soaps Ryan's Hope,Loving,AMC,OLTL,General Hospital, and the Edge of Night. couldn't help but get hooked on it due to that fact that back in the day there were only two TV's in my folks house and we had to watch the tv in the Living room and if my grandmother was home it stayed on ABC all day till 4pm. but by the time i got into my teens i stopped watching soaps all together but when i was dating this girl back in the 90's she got me hooked on "Days of our lives". been watching that on and off since about 95, then i got hooked on "Passions" but it hasn't really been good since the actor that played Timmy died back in '02 i think.

He tricked Lily into trying to get Luke into a "summer camp", which was actually a deprograming thing to try to get Luke back on the straight and narrow. Damien also had an ulterior motive: he needed to get Luke back to his own country to access some sort of inheritance or something, cuz Damien needed the money. Lily had a temporary problem with Luke's sexuality, but she came to terms with it. Holden was pretty much supportive from the start.

Interesting. I've never really been a soap fan. But about a year ago I caught an episode of this soap called Passions. It was crazy hilarious. Two hunky guys with their shirts off were having a umm...boob...slapping fight. I still don't see it often, but when I do it's just so ridiculously funny. Maybe I'll have to check out As the World Turns.

Since it was part of Friday's cliffhanger, they continued the kiss on Monday's episode. It was even better than Friday's. They just better not mess this up
