I was watching it, it was pretty good and i was rooting for kelly the fucking sexy redhead and john. The 2 gays won, which sucked cause my team never won, oh well.
But i couldnt help but notice what the gay team said when they won, the guy said
THIS PROVES THAT GAYS ARE ABLE TO DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE CAN DO
not word for word but that was pretty well what he said i got it taped off i could go double check later. Anyway
WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN??????????????

I think it basically means that many people think that gays are just nelly little queens that can do nothing but shop and dish. Now, I have never seen Amazing Race, but I would guess that they are just saying that even gays can be athletic and do endurance-type things, just like anybody else.

Or, I could be completely wrong smile

I agree with Quislet.

But I thought it was a fucking stupid thing to say as well, and I *am* gay. Yuck. I love the show, and I love my fellow homosexuals, but geez: except for the female-only teams, Chip & Reichen were kinda rude and crappy to everyone throughout the show. Whatever.

But it was a great, exciting finale! Very suspenseful!

I hate when mean people win. Doesn't matter if they're gay or straight. Chip and Reichen were downright rude and obnoxious at times, but hey, it got them 1Mil.

I should learn to be so rude.

So they pretty much proved that gay people can be just like everyone else, even when it means being rude, obnoxious, sneaky and underhanded. Not the best qualities to strive for but...

I agree, its getting kind of old to hear people saying "look at us, we're gay and we're just as good as you." Actions speak louder than words, and words can often put people off, such as in this case.

EDIT -Okay, so I read an article that described the final show in more detail, and think that I probably should not have made the above comments without having actually seen the finale and more of the show in general. I only watched a couple of episodes and was basing what I said on other people's views.
The truth is, there are still a lot of people who stereotype gay people as limp-wristed girly-men and we do have a few of those, but there's also many of us that are very manly and physical. I think that's what they were trying to point out.
Anyway, its an exciting time for gay people in which we're becoming more and more visible to the general public so I don't think I can really fault them for being excited to represent us in this instance.

They weren't that rude.

Well, Chip was.

Up to the point he freaked out about the Taxi driver who didn't speak english, I was rather taken with how supportive they were of each other.

And if they want to imagine that proving gay people can do things is a vital issue, let them. It's their obsession.

I can't believe how completely the two friends from California fell out of the race. But, I'm certainly glad Jon stayed in long enough to get nude for the cameras.

this is how i saw it, and a few others i know saw it.
Saying youre gay is fine, nobody roots for the gays unless they are good looking lesbians, but to say THIS PROVES GAYS CAN DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE CAN DO makes it sound like you have a disability. Thats what disabled atheletes say, i can do what everyone else can do even though i am blind, deaf, disabled or whatever.
He made it sound like a disability.
and thats coming from a gay, gotta be honest i laughed.

Okay, I read something that put what the couple said in context and it didn't seem as bad as it was made out to be. I guess I would have to see it, but from what I read it seemed to be a lot more positive than what it seemed like this thread was making it out to be. I only saw a couple of episodes this season, but surely these 2 guys weren't the only rude couple. I've seen several episodes of prior seasons and it seems like each season would have people that would do whatever it took to win, even if it meant being rude.

I edited my first comment on this thread because I was speaking about something based on other people's views rather than what I saw for myself.
