Just got back from it. All that hype? Was it all true? Well... hell yes.

This was not only a good movie, it was a great movie. A+ for sure, and I'd go as far to say as a contender for best super-hero movie. The only other Marvel film that can compete is Spidey II and that one didn't have the restaints of introducing an origin and supporting cast.

Downey Jr. is just tremendous. Really, his performance is just brillant. He hits all the right emotions, is funny when its called for, is charming always, smart, passionate, egomaniac and aware of it, and I can go on and on. Tony goes through a major change and its unspoken but right there the entire movie.

Gweneth Paltrow, whom I've never cared for (ever) was fantastic. By far the most attractive and sexy she's ever been, but also equally brillant. And her relationship with Tony is never overplayed, its all very subtle and never approaches cheesiness.

Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, even John Favreau in his few scenes as Happy are all great.

The film was relevant without being preachy. It was important in the worldview of things but never taking the focus off character.

I've never seen Iron Man's origin as one of comic's best, but the movie makes it feel like it belongs up there with Spidey, Bats and Supes. Tales of Suspsense #39 never looked so good.

The 'special scene' at the end was a brief treat, but really the entire play-up of SHIELD was great. The real end (not the added scene), with Tony's announcement, was a great finish. I think it was the perfect end.

I can't wait for another. Hell, I can't wait for the Hulk if Downey Jr. even only has two minutes.

If you have kids, this is a great movie to bring them to. They'll cheer a bunch of times, but there's at least one *great* scene for them:
Click Here For A SpoilerWhen the robot he's been making fun of all along actually saves his life with the old heart.

It was very witty, very funny and very charming. And it had a series of great scenes that all came together with actors/camera angles/background & setting/montage/etc. that just worked.

I just saw the movie again and something new caught my eye.

in the scene where Stane yells at the scientist, before he arrives, the lead scientist is speaking to someone on the phone. I wonder if that was setup for the next picture. is it possible, the lead scientist is a mole for the bad guy(s) of the next film? it was a subtle moment, but so was the Roxxon building in the background of the fight scene near the bus.

if they simply wanted to kill time before stane showed up, why not have those guys speak a few lines of techno-babble before stane arrives. instead they show the guy talking on the phone. who would he be speaking to: his buddy, girlfriend, mom, etc. doesn't seem like he would be speaking to a random buddy about his project, especially a project that he can't complete. of course it could just be what it appears to be, but I don't know.

that's why I think the Iron Monger suit or a variation will show up in the next movie. who knows maybe he was a spy for Roxxon.

I liked the movie and didn't see any plot holes.

There was one thing that bothered me though. There are a couple of times Tony falls from a great height and gets right up. Especially with the first armor he made, he should have been paste in the armor when it hit the sand. It is something I am willing to overlook, but still...

More than a month late, but saw Iron Man today (my father's day gift...to me!).

I was blown away by how good this movie was. Man, you cast GREAT actors, give them a GREAT script, and GREAT direction, and the result is just outstanding! My favorite scene -- Stark and Rhodes in the plane on the way to Afghanistan! When the poles rose from the cabin floor, I almost fell out of my chair.

I say ALL this as someone who has never been fond of Iron Man. Yes, I know, his flaws are supposed to make him interesting. But he was always bland, revolting, annoying and/or fascist to me. Plus, and this may seem strange, but until recent years his armor just never worked for me in the comic visuals. I think recent artists have finally come up with a compelling way to put Tony's armor together and make it work, and the filmmakers REALLY made use of that. I think Iron Man may be a character who actually works better on film than comics. You certainly get a much more compelling "gear head" feel when you see a live Tony Stark working with real shiny things in his dream garage surrounded by the most awesome of vehicles. I think I could have watched a whole movie of RDJ in the garage. The Winston studio armor and the effects were just done perfectly, and the armor seems more believable in the film than in the comics. Finally, I think the shades of gray that make Tony Stark interesting (or infuriating) work BETTER on screen than in comics, where you have time, facial expressions, etc. to bring those nuances to life.

One amusing (and telling) anecdote. I went to see this 6 weeks(?) after it's release, at 1:30 on a Sunday. The showing WAS moved to one of the smaller theaters in the googleplex, but it was FULL. Not a single seat free (the 5-year old and I snagged the last 2.) There were also some unacompanied women (by that, I mean women attending without men). What became clear after the movie eavesdropping on conversations was that the gals were there because they LOVE Robert Downey Jr. and LOVE the long-suffering unrequited love that Gwyneth Paltrow holds. They TOTALLY fantasize about being Pepper Pots. PEPPER POTS, PEOPLE! I know Marvel knows this is a mega-hit. I wonder if they know it's an unprecedented comic crossover chick-flick!?!?!?

...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

they just said that Terrence Howard will not be playing James Rhodes in the next IronMan movie and Don Cheadle will replace him. actully i think it's a better choice nothing against Howard but IMO Cheadle is a way better actor.
i hope they do plan on putting the War machine armor in the next film.

Cheadle so kicks ass!
I hope we see him in the armor!

I need another sentence to end with an exclamation point!
