Well, he's sorta like Tom Cruise

Iron Man, Iron Man Does whatever an Iron can. Presses pleats, really fine. Gets those cuffs, right in line. Look out! There goes the Iron Man!

They've certainly got similar demons in their closets - addictions, wearing neat suits, going out with Ally McBeal...

He's certainly a great actor, but I'm apprehensive. They've already stated that the alcoholism won't feature into the first film (how old is Downey anyway? How many sequels could he realistically star in?), so I have to imagine there's going to be a hefty amount of "playboy billionaire/ Howard Hughes" type stuff - especially in the beginning. Downey could probably pull it of, but the question is, will he want to? Will Favreau steer him that way?
Favreau stated that he welcomed Downey's humor but I'm not sure it's the same kind of humor that Tony Stark has. I read one comment on Favreau's blog that "smug doesn't equal confidence" and I agree that Downey tends to come off as smug when playing an arrogant character. He also tends to come off as immature when Stark is a mature gorwn-up man with mature grown-up problems. Iron Man isn't a hero whose motivation is wrapped up in little boy issues (so yes, while Downey is kinda old I'm more relieved they didn't choose someone really young). Still, he's certainly an interesting choice, so I'll reserve judgment til I see the thing. At least it's not like Tom Cruise or Ben Affleck...

I was looking forward to this movie, but it looks like I can pass it up now. Cruise, Downey, sorry, none of those names works for me.
I would rather see an unknown than either one of those. They could, however, play the old Blue Devil, the real "wierdness magnet", lol.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!

It's already been announced that the Mandarin would be the villain. Who could play him opposite Downey Jr.? Hmm... does Andy Lau speak English?

You know, I think Robert Downey Jr. might do a good job. He's a lot better actor than people give him credit for. He's been great lately in a lot of movies where he was a supporting actor (i.e. 'Good Night, Good Luck'). Terrence Howard as Rhodey is also inspired. I think he's a phenominal actor myself, and especially thought he was great in Crash. Hard to imagine he got his start in an Ashanti music video (that's where I first saw him). I'm looking forward to the casting of the Mandarin, Happy, Pepper and the Senator who I'm sure will be giving Tony trouble! (Since that's a recurring theme in Iron Man since, oh, 1966 ).

I was ready for this movie even with Tom Cruise supposedly attached. Now with Downey, Jr and Howard onboard this'll be the next big comic book movie for me. Forget FF2 and The Dark Knight.
I don't know if anyone else here bothered with A Scanner Darkly but Downey was brilliant in it and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang has to be one of my most favorite films of the past few years.

As Tekwych pointed out in another thread , they've cast Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper. My estimation of the film just crashed and burned. Sorry but for me that's just a big mis-cast. I would rather have seen a lesser known or unknown in the role. Paramount Pictures with Marvel Studios Release Date May 2nd, 2008
It has now been confirmed that Stan Winston Studios has been hired to create a working mechanical version of the Iron Man Armor which is believed to be of a very similar design to the currant version in the comic book

I'm actually pretty excited about this, especially the cast (Gweneth and the previously confirmed Downey Jr., Howard and director Favrau). All they need now is a lovable, rugged Happy Hogan by an actor who can show some real depth.
I have higher hopes for this film than most of what Marvel's done so far in its movies (and I generally have liked 75% of the Marvel movies so far). I think this could be really great.

Gweneth really doesn't do it for me either.
What I question more is that a real, mechanical suit is being developed by Stan Winston Studios. I hope this will be a prop piece for part of Tony's lab because I just don't see how they will make a real suit of Iron Man armor that looks good and allows movement. I would rather see a neoprene suit with a surface treatment or CGI.

I haven't seen Robert Downey Jr in a few years. Does he have the look for Tony Stark? I think of Downey as being a sort of goofy guy ... Tony Stark is much more Errol Flynn.

Jeff Bridges was added to the cast today. Couple of different sources (CNN and AICN) say that there isn't an character name to associate to him yet. Just that he has a long history with Tony and Stark Industries. I love Bridges, not sure of his fit in this movie. But, the Dude will abide.

It's a good casting choice.
Since they've cast a Pepper Potts, it's possible a Happy Hogan would be involved as well. Or a Kevin O'Brien.

Nice to see such a talented cast! I can totally see Bridges as Happy, but him and Gwenyth together? Not so much. I guess we'll see...

The first look at the classic "Grey Suit". Not too bad. Click Here For A Spoiler ![[Linked Image]](http://www.legionworld.net/upload/00000002/IronManGreySuit.jpg)
