In addition to my love of the Legion, fangirls, trading card games, comics in general, I'm also a martial artist. So I'm also a huge fan of the UFC. I was just wondering if there were any other fans of mma out there?

I went to a mixed martial arts match at a local casino last year. My partner is a fan. I was reluctant to go but ended up enjoying it. It is much more of "a sport" than I thought. These guys are skilled fighters and it is certainly more of a thinking man's game than I realized. They did several fights with local kids before the professionals came out. I enjoyed that part more than the main show. The kids had their family and friends there cheering for them. It was fun.

Beauty's where you find it. Not just where you bump and grind it.

My wife hates the UFC and I can understand that... it is a brutal sport. I think the appeal of the UFC for me is (and I am in no way a martial artist, although I did have some hand to hand in the military back in the day) the total effort that is required to compete at that level for that amount of time.

And if you have never been in a hand to hand situation then you will never understand that (hence my wife's position on the UFC).

The other thing that appeals to me about it is if you apply the correct technique at the correct time then just about anybody can beat anybody else. Take a guy like Royce Gracie who is not that big or "cut", but he is a martial arts master (Brazilian Ju-Jitsu if I remember) but he has consistently beaten bigger guys through the years with the superior application of technique.

Yes during the old barbarian days of the UFC there were very few, heavy emphasis on the very few, rules. This was back in '93. And slowly very slowly as the ownership changed hands to the Fertita brothers they began to add rules. And honestly I LIKE the changes that were made. I just knew that once they made this a legal sporting show more people would become interested in it.
