re: the deletion of LWORLD threads at DC: I'm not surprised at all. I think the recent splash we all made over there didn't go unnoticed, by the DC ptb AND the DC Legion board posters.

We'll get some newbies (and even got someone who registered a while ago-- hi Rick!-- to make his first posts)

We actually should do it once in a while. The new url of the DC boards actually works SMOOTHER for me now, although I still despise the look of it and the backwards posts are positively lunatic.

Wasn't there something at the Yahoo LMBP called a "road show" where people went cruising to other Legion or comics boards to recruit members? I may have it mixed up with some other comics-related board, but I seem to recall arriving at that LMBP site in the middle of a road show discussion and having NO IDEA what anyone there was talking about. (It was really the tag team stories there that confounded me. I admit, I'm a bit slow on the uptake.)

So a little recruiting seems like an honored tradition for MBs - and it would or could work both ways if the DCMBs are worthy of peoples' support.

Yep, we called 'em ROAD TRIPS...we would hit other boards at the DC site.

I think the occasional mass "road trip" to the DC Legion board is a good idea. Pop in for a day, post lots of crazy stuff, leave lots of links to LWORLD, threshold back home...

Can't we just sic our cyber-spiders on them and make them all come here to talk Legion?

I went to their once-again updated board and it just made me sick. I read left to right, up to down. Not bottom to top. And they don't make it easy to get to pages past the first one so if you come in on a long topic it would drive you crazy trying to read from the first post.

Okay. smile But you asked. The "What the hell happened to the \'not quite kosher\' thread?" thread by Dark Bamf! [/b]
I certainly did. Thanks for the link!

Those tiny little page numbers that change color when you click on 'em REALLY help you keep track of which pages you've read, if you keep coming back day after day as long threads GET longer. This was ELIMINATED when the created the new DC Boards. Those F****** A******s!!!!!

That's probably why the new format with the newest post first. Someone complained about not being able to navigate to the last page and this was their way of fixing it. Imbeciles.

I'm sorry, that wasn't nice. Naturally I don't wish harm to anyone or their computer.

Let's just give them a rubber band so they can amuse themselves for hours on end, and save them the trouble of trying to navigate the boards.
wink lol

Well, it has been an option since the "new" DCMBs were launched. But only as an option, not the stupid near-compulsory mess we have now.

I think its a way to force people to log in, and hence track their usage more efficiently, giving them more commercial data.

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

hmmm... I wonder how long until the founders get a cease and desist order from DC? If they are touchy enough to delete links to this site from their Message Boards, how long until they decided Legion World is a violation of their copyright?

Don't I recall that Michael Grabois stopped updating the Legion of Super-resources due to a cease a desist order from DC?

DC copyrights aren't involved, except for uses of art in passing for some of the avatars. Those aren't large enough for them to make a case about. Scans from the books are posted here, obviously, for purposes of review and commentary, and would fall under "fair use." One exception is the Coipel art used at the root homepage. They might balk at that, unfortunately.

All of this is diluted, in turn, by its being a non-commercial Website. And by its being, primarily, a discussion forum, as are the various Yahoo! Groups. The coming LegionPics.net runs more of a risk, but not much more.

Our own postings are each individual's property, in terms of copyright. (See the thread about this in SPHQ begun by Fat Cramer.) Those have nothing to do with DC, even if they talk about DC properties.

Mike Grabois had extensive full-page scans on line from published Legion works. That was the focus of DC's claim, upon Mike's former site, for them to be removed under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Mike could have challenged this (and could very well have prevailed), but he found it easier to simply set up "shop" elsewhere.

Fan art and fan fiction involves use of DC trademarks, not copyrights, but they've almost never gone against those creating it for non-profit, non-commercial venues or media.

I sent him a "Happy Birthday" PM and another one in regards to the way cute birthday pics he put in his journal. The man is a hoot! laugh
