[[/qb]
Right now you'd have to wait for the DVD release (assuming they do a region 1 release) or acquire it by other, more shady, means. The BBC has yet to find a network willing to broadcast it in the U.S. [/QB]
BBC plans to release the show on Region 1 DVD in February. The DVDs will be released to Canada. So the States will finally have access to the show.

I hope David Tennant has an iron-clad contract which will have him playing the good Doctor for a great many years yet...

Darden, you're just as bad as Rich Johnston who did something similar on Monday. Only he went so far as to hint that Bryan Hitch did it on purpose. That was until Hitch told him he was up in the night.

I dont know what you mean Actually, unlike Rich, I had no idea who designed ro drew these. i just happened to see them both for the first time on the same day and thought they looked similar. Must be the first time ever I've been comapred to a real life journalist.

Brian,
They are Cybermen. Humanoids who have replaced body parts with robotic ones.
They are going to be the doctors "big" returning bad guys in the second series.

Got the special (haven't watched it yet). And the U.S. will finally get to see the show, legally. I wonder what kind of deal they held out for at SciFi. SCI FI To Air New Doctor Who

I loved David Tennant in the Christmas special. Eccleston was... OK, but he never felt quite right to me. For a start he didn't *look* like the Doctor in his boring black jacket, whereas David Tennant's Doctor has that slightly eccentric Edwardian-esque look to him. He was also much more fun than Eclleston and less pompous. But we also got to see flashes of a slightly sinister side to him to lies underneath. Plus he's much, much sexier than Eccleston . Unfortunately we still get sodding Mickey and Rose's stupid mother. I just hope that they get written out soon because they annoy the hell out of me. I want more space based/alien planet stories and not every single story set on Earth. It's not like the Beeb have given them a tiny budget so they have to set everything on Earth in the present day (which was why so much of the Tom Baker stuff was set on Earth) so they can do the space stories. Hopefully we'll get more of that in the new series.

I Loved Eccleston as the Doctor from episode one and thought he was going to be a hard act to follow. Tennent is good and I think he has the potential to be a great Doctor, but I need to see more.
Click Here For A SpoilerI was particularly uneasy about this doctor’s willingness to kill at the end of the episode. This is of course the fault of the writer rather than the actor, but still, compare Ecclestons inability to kill the Daleks at the end of the first series with the casual and very deliberate way Tennent made the Graske leader fall to his death. A traditional doctor would have side stepped or fought and only in the middle of the fight could the fall have occurred.
I too really dislike Micky. He is far too plastic for my taste and I can not see the reason to keep him in the show as he and Rose have grown so far apart now. Rose’s mum though is growing on me. I like the way they are showing the ramifications on Friends and Family of Rose vanishing off with the Doctor. By keeping the focus on a recurring cast of “civilians” rather than the more generic types we used to see we can develop a sense of belonging and bonding with them so that we care more when they are in danger than perhaps we do when a generic red shirt is threatened.

I heard, too, that Billie Piper was leaving the current series after Season 2. Looks like the producers arent giving the viewers much of a chance to "bond" with the new characters because they choose to stay only a short time. That never happened in the old series...

Hurray & rejoice i just heard that the Sci-fi channel will start airing Dr.Who in March At long last... America will finally get the first season of the new Doctor Who television series, according to a press release on the official Doctor Who website. The US-based Sci-Fi Channel, owned by NBC Universal, has secured a deal to broadcast the 13 episodes in America starting in March, beginning on what Outpost Gallifrey believes is likely March 17 (the week after the season finales of the popular "Battlestar Galactica" and two "Stargate" shows), at 9:00pm Friday nights, and it will likely conclude at some point in mid-to-late June in time for Sci-Fi's summer premieres of those shows. The press release notes that Sci-Fi has an option for series two, likely to be acted upon after initial ratings come in. Happy,Happy, Joy,Joy!!!!!!
opps my bad i didn't notice that someone had already posted about it,....my bad!!

There are very conflicting reports about Billie Piper and whether she's leaving or not. First the papers were saying that she was only going to be in the first couple of episodes of series 2, then she was just 'not confirmed' and then she said that she wanted to be around as long as they'd have her and then she said that she was looking at her options and now... eh. Last I heard she was confirmed for the whole of the next series but nothing was singed after that. It doesn't sound like the whole deal with Eccleston (who only ever signed for one series and they weren't going to tell anyone until the last episode aired only he let it slip in an interview adn it sort of looked like he was jumping ship when it was the plan all along and he was helping to relaunch teh franchise with his name recognition) but it does sound like either none of the papers know what they're talking about or nothing has actually been confirmed by the Beeb yet (unless I've completely missed some press release or something).
I do hope she sticks around though, i like Rose. I could just do without her tedious mother and annoying and pointless ex-boyfriend.

Has there been, in the history of the series, any female Companion who could do other things besides scream, cry or wimping out in general? I wonder if there was someone who could actually whup some ass without worrying if their fingernails were chipped?

Ace was a non-screaming, kick arse female companion. OK, in her own way she was a bit cliched and stereotyped but I loved her. One of the best companions imho. But then again I really liked a lot of the Sylvester McCoy episodes (once they got rid of Bonnie Langford) so I'm bound to like her as well.
