Anyone go see this movie? i am a big fan of the original and this movie remake i am also a fan of. This movie ROCKED!! right from the beginning, some slow parts in between, some unexplained scenes and some truly horrifying scenes, but i thought movie was awesome. I hope it stays number 1 at the box office but i feel with the arrivial of the scooby gang, and the track record zombies have with the scooby gang i just dont think they will fare well.
comments and opinions please.

This is one of the only things I'm looking forward to on my trip to Vegas. Caroline doesn't care for zombie movies and I love them. So I won't subject her to it and I won't go alone when we are together. Since I've got some time to kill when I first get into town, I'm going to try and catch an early showing. I'll report back when I can.

Does it explain how they went from the slow-moving zombies of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD to being able to move at regular speed? (I was a fan of the remake of NotLD because the chick realized she could just flamin' WALK OUT of the house and RIGHT PAST the zombies because they couldn't move fast. Smart thinking!).

exactly mllash, anyone with a brain could realize you could walk past them, and where did these people stay? IN A HOUSE!!!
In the remake, everything just happens overnight and you wake up in a nightmare. It doesnt explain why they run, why they rose or anything like that, everything just happens. In the original dawn of the dead, you join the movie in the middle of the plague. I think this movie rocks, heres a link to the first 10 mins that was shown unedited on USA

I saw this while in Vegas. Best thing I saw while I was there! I cannot believe how well done this was, even if there seemed to be a lot of credit to 28 Days Later needed.

And anyone who walked out before the credits were over missed some of the best stuff of the movie. Another guy who was in the class I was taking last week went to the show but an earlier showing. He left before the end of the credits. When I told him what happened he couldn't believe how stupid he was.

I'm going to have to see this one again before buying the DVD when it comes out.

i was one of those people who walked out at the end, and i regret it so much, so much i had to download a copy of the movie that was done with handheld cmmera but at least i finally got to see the end
this movie owes credit to 28 days??
BLASPHEMY!!!!!
I saw an interview with the director and he said the reason they ran was because they were dead, they felt nothing, he gave an example, if a zombie picked up something heavy, it wouldnt matter the weight he would try to lift and he would tear his arms off but it wouldnt matter cause they feel nothing.
i loved this movie, i hope the dvd has more gore and stuff.

Then let's say the cinematography owes a lot to 28 Days Later. There were a number of scenes that, to me, looked like they had been filmed in the identical manner as those in 28 Days.

And I don't find it blasphemous to compare the two. I believe if it weren't for 28 Days we might not have gotten such a good remake. And who knows. Maybe we'll get a bunch of new, well done, zombie flics.

just razzing ya LL
i agree that some scenes were similar to 28 days, but once you introduce running zombies, the comparisons are inevitable.
I thought 28 days was ok, but lacked a lot, mainly in the plot, DOTD lacks in the plot but not like 28 days, did anyone see the special edition DVD of 28 days, it has a storyboard for the original story, done with drawings and voiced by danny boyle and some other guy, the story was better, not much but better.
Did you also know that homage is paid to DOTD in 28 days, apparently danny is a fan of DOTD.
Hey LL, have you ever read the original draft to DAY OF THE DEAD? far far better then the movie was, if you havent let me know, i will give you the link.

That would be great Lab. I haven't read it. I've read the novelization of Dawn a couple of dozen times. Used to own a hardback copy of it.

Still looking for Romero's latest but his website is still dead.

The Preview for it looks awesome (the one with flashbacks to the previous movies). Still haven't seen the Dawn remake, and must rectify this situation shortly...

That you need to do Cobie. The remake was great. And I recently read that they are doing a remake of Day of the Dead now as well.

Can't wait for Land to get here though. Even Caroline has said she would go see it with me and she doesn't like zombie flicks.

Those previews with the Zombies crossing the water to get to the "lifers" is so creepifying...! You almost feel sorry for the zombs until you remember that they only want to get there to eat brains and stuff....

You missed the gore from the original? We must have seen different remakes of Dawn then. This one is more gory than the first one in some respect. I actually think it's better than the original (the European "Zombie" version with the music by Goblin, not the US toned-down version.

Dawn of the Dead is available uncensored in Europe, and believe me it's very very very gory! Also, some of the unexplained scenes you talk about are part of the scenes that were cut from the movie. The Uncensored version has restored them...

Also, you've got the "Andy tapes", showing what's happening in the other house in the meantime, and the fake TV news (30 minutes). All that in the director's cut DVD.

mon ami
i found the original more gory, i have the dvd with all the extra footage and i enjoy it very much. Andy's tapes were interesting but i can see why they didnt give him a speaking role on screen, heh heh. however i did not enjoy the news reports, they were pretty sad.I'm not saying it wasnt gory cause it was but the original is defiantely gorier.
Cant wait til next week

I know, Lab. I just remember from Romero's original Night of the Living Dead that the zombs did eat the humans.

So, I still haven't rented DAWN OF THE DEAD but intend to... I understand the zombies evolving but is it explained why they are evil? Is their "evilness" the result of the living being scared of them and hunting them and stuff? Or is it just a "zombies = evil/bad" deal?

there has been no explanation given as to why this is happening. Some theories stated in NIGHT, DAWN and the remake of DAWN, that possibly a satellite that recently crashed had been struck by cosmic radiation, another theory was that it may be a man made virus. Then of course there is cult classic theory which is
WHEN THERE IS NO MORE ROOM IN HELL
THE DEAD WILL WALK THE EARTH

which was the tagline for the movie

I dont think its a question of good or bad, they just attack and eat and eat and apparantly only warm blooded humans. This new movie will change the zombies in the series forever, like stated in a previous post, the zombies are evolving.
