It's a J. J. Abrams project called "Cloverfield". And, yes, it does look pretty awesome.
Come to think of it, a J. J. Abrams Transformers would've been really awesome as well...

Here\'s the trailer in Quicktime (and HD). Much better to see what's going on. Supposedly some of the leaked websites are not true websites for the movie. Abrams has said, though, that he has a number of websites with hints about the movie but the only one discovered (so far) is www.1-18-08.com . Speculation? I liked the original idea (connected with the now known fake websites) that this may be a modern version of HP Lovecraft's Old Ones. If that idea is out, as is Godzilla type movies, what do you think it is?

I heard it's just another Giant Monster Movie, but the camera-work is almost exclusively handi-cam work to give it that 'embedded reporter' or 'man-on-the-scene' feel. It'll probably be as stomach-churning as Blair Witch.

LOST boards were filled with speculation that it's actually about the monster from LOST.
The sound effects do sound a bit similar.

I think there is something else behind this. The head of the Statue of Liberty is a hint. Perhaps a remake of Return to Planet of the Apes?

I just heard he's also helming the upcoming Star Trek movie. Zachary Quinto (Sylar on Heroes) is set to play Spock. Matt Damon has been rumored to fill Kirk's Koulats but apparently that rumor has been squashed.
Is that a moon?

I saw this preview. Pretty cool. I am thinking Escape from New York remake.
Some buddies of mine said the movie Rampage.
On wiki if you look up Cloverfield it gives you the films website. there are also some sites out there related to the film but don't appear to be. One is some Japanese slushy website if you click on history and snoop around you read about a girl who loved slushies and her uncle was a ocean scientist and something happened to him?
wierd stuff.

I saw it today. No spoilers.
I liked it, but beware if you're prone to motion sickness from rapid camcorder movement as there are some scenes where that happens.

I didn't know Camcorder had 20.1 surround sound. It was pretty cool, actually -- the right balance of "Blair Witch" and "Godzilla." If you like monster movies, this is definitely for you.
