Let's face it, people grouch and complain about poor service at big box stores but then when the next gadget goes on sale theyre back in line at the checkout. For the average consumer not a lot of value is generated by the sales person.
I could make a case that the guy who puts it on the shelf all neat and easy to find creates more economic value added than the salesperson. That guy in turn generates less value than the guy who designed the store layout and the consultant who created the Supply Chain system to minimize costs by maximizing turnover.
In the electronics big box industry, low price trumps knowledgeable staff and good service.
