Is the verb "créer" unusual is it a regular 'er' verb? PB did you want the phrase in past tense? Would it be something like "et Dieu a crée la femme"? I'm tres rusty so I defer to FC.

The verb is in the "passé simple" tense because that phrase is a direct quote from the Bible. The passé simple is used in formal writing; if it had been some other/spoken expression like "God created a real big mess here" you could use the regular past tense. I never really understood where the line was between using the regular past tense and the passé simple when writing, although I suspect "I farted in your general direction" might not be worthy of the literary passé simple.
