My Jeep was stolen earlier this week, right from the parking lot at work after my lunch break. I was @#$%^&% PISSED!
The police found it abandoned yesterday. It cost me $150 to get it out of the impound lot. ($75 for the tow to the lot, $75 for 2 days in the lot depsite it being there less than 24hrs)
For the most part, it was undamaged. However to steal it, the thief tore out the ignition lock. To get it running again, I need to buy a new steering coloumn. Labour and all = $1000 (using refurbished parts!)
Not counting the time loss from work, or the cab fare to get my car, I'm out $1175. With only liability insurance, this bill falls on my shoulders. I understand that, it was my call not to insure against theft.
Here's what gets me:
My car was stolen. The police traced an abandoned vehicle back to me. They did nothing to right the wrong commited, are doing nothing to catch the thief. They aren't tracking this crime to link with other car thefts. No one will ever be apprehended for the crime, no justice served, and I won't be able to file suit to get my money from the crook. He got to borrow my car, for free!
