ok, i have to admit i'm a huge addict of Hong-Kong films.
Out of all of them it's the movies of Steven Chow who some of you may know from Shaolin Soccer.
On the weekend i finally got my mangled paws on a copy of his latest film, Hong Kong Hustle, and ENJOYED THE HELL OUT OF MESELF.
It's set in the 20's and is the story of how Chow's character pretends to be a member of the Ax Gang to extort money from 'Pigs Sty', one of the poorer apartment blocks in the area.
Thing's go wrong when the real Axe Gang get involved and it's revealed that there are several kung fu masters living undercover in the block.
This doesn't begin to do the great nonsense comedy justice. The movie is fairly cgi heavy but it's in no way as intrusive as a blockbuster like Van Helsing.
So... anyone else had the opportunity to see this?

I saw it a coupla weeks ago, I loved the style and humor of it, though it was in Chinese so I could only understand bits of it.

The only film of Chow's I've seen was Shaolin Soccer, which was kinda fun.
Wouldn't mind seeing this one, or some of his other films.

got the Hong Kong dvd, which is english sub-titled. Never understood why people say his comedy is 'too local' for the rest of the world.
The part where he tries to scare the snakes off by whistling is priceless. Everybody knows what's going to happen, but it's still funny.
Discovered Mr. Chow on late night tv seeing 'Forbidden City Cop'. when i realized it was a send up of the HK fantasy genre i laughed heavily, when he included a send up of Pulp Fiction, i was hooked.
Shaolin Soccer is one of the best sports movies ever and instantly made my top 5 fave movies.
Miner, look out for '60 Million Dollar Man' and 'God Of Cookery' (Ah the folding chair, one of the eight true weapons of shaolin, a send up of the Iron Chef concept. They're probably his most accessible.

What was wrong with Van Helsing? I liked it for what it was, a fun little summer popcorn movie. And Kate Beckinsale wasn't hard to look at either, lol.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!
Something pithy!
