I smell a hit!

She made I'm Like A Bird one of my favorite songs ever (and I still love it) but the other songs on her first CD ranged from so-so to pretty good.

Still, on the strength of this latest release, I'll be getting her second cd.

The song has an unmistakeable heavy throbbing beat-- once you hear it you'll never forget it-- and of course, Nelly's patented vocal fluctuations!

I listened to Nelly's first CD both Fri & Sat night while getting ready to go out-- actually of the 12 songs, 10 of them are good and 2 are so-so. Not a bad ratio at all for a debut cd....

I like her voice a lot and she's a BABE, but I never bought the cd. You'll have to review it for us, Lash.

A review of WHOA, NELLY the first CD by the talented Ms. Furtado.

She writes all her own songs, unlike Britney, Jessica and Christina, and takes more risks with her electronic sound. Electronic music can be lacking in SOUL... but Nelly tries hard to avoid that trap and succeeds much of the time.

I appreciated her honesty in I'M LIKE A BIRD and at the time could really relate to the notion of being undependable in love. She actually made what is in essence a breakup song uplifting. Breakup songs are usually sassy, sad, empowering... but uplifting? Very Impressive, Nelly!

TURN OUT THE LIGHT was her second release and has a good beat. It was a good and needed contrast to the songs that portray Nelly a a tough-grrrl like BABY GIRL. It also features a bit of her patented Nelly-scatting which is featured on other songs on the cd like TRYNNA FIND A WAY (which I think would have made a great single).

My second favorite track on the cd has always been WELL WELL which features a catchy melodic sing-along chorus:

Her talent for creating catchy sing-along phrases is also on display in such tracks as HEY MAN and ....ON THE RADIO (the "...." stands for SHIT). She seems to be hushing the people who had already dissed her for being a sellout BEFORE her first album ever came out-- You liked me 'til you heard my shit on the radio...

There are a couple of slower and in my opinion less-successful tracks on the CD, but they aren't BAD songs. I just think that in that early stage of Nelly's career, her strength lies in faster-paced catchy songs.

She might agree with this as her first release from her second cd, called POWER iirc, has a majorly catchy sing-along chorus and a heavy pulsating beat full of fun electronic jibber-jabber throughout!

Anyone here hear her song with Swollen Members called "Breath"? Todd McFarlane directed the video. It's worth trying to download if you've got a high-speed connection (the video, that is. You can download the song too, for all I care).

Yeah, so when's the new Kylie Minogue VIDEO coming out?!! I need a new dose of Kylie doing something sexy! Britney Spear's videos just don't do it for me, and Christina has never recaptured the magic of Dirty (pure slutty fun)!

WOW! Nelly has taken her formula on WHOA, NELLY and gone over the top with it. The improvement is no less than 100%. Though I enjoyed her first offering, this newest cd, called FOLKLORE, is a keeper from listen # 1.

All the chances she takes pays off here.

Her lyrics can be somewhat difficult to understand (and much of her singing is indeed in Porteugese), but when you're grooving you really don't find yourself caring.

Powerless is my number 1 favorite song right now.

The video is great too. I like when she's dancing on the bench outside. She is very pretty.

She's a definite hottie. And the video is very colorful and fun, much like the I'm Like A Bird video was.

Nelly seemed to suffer the dreaded sophomore slump with FOLKLORE, which wasn't as successful as WHOA, NELLY (even though it was better!) and stalled out.

But then Timbaland brought her back full-force withher third release LOOSE. "Promiscuous", "Maneater" and "Say it Right" all became fast favorites of mine.

Nelly's latest single is actually from Timbaland's new 'solo' album. The single is titled GIVE IT TO ME. It is H-O-T. It's a duet with Timbaland like "Promiscuous" but also features the talents of Justin Timberlake.

It's got a mesmerizing beat that makes you wanna shake dat azz!
