Iceland today became the ninth nation to equalize marriage, right on the heels of Portugal which made the change on 31May2010. In Europe, five other countries have same-sex marriage: Netherlands (2001), Belgium (2003), Spain (2005), Norway (2008), & Sweden (2009). Canada (2005), South Africa (2006), and Mexico City (2010) also have equal marriage, and in the US Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Washington, DC.

The lower house of the Argentine parliament has passed a marriage equality bill. The upper house is scheduled to take up the bill next month.

Watch the courts. We may be surprised. Meanwhile, keep an eye one Maryland, Minnesota, and Michigan. But maybe not until after November... Also, either Slovenia or Luxembourg could be the next country.
