so this film is now out in the US !!

anyone been to see it yet, or plan to do so ??

the original is one of my favourite films [ for a number of reasons ] so i'm not sure how to take this new version, although the trailer did look pretty good !!??

Matthew.

I haven't seen it but I heard from my coworker's it's not good. It's been doing lousy business so far as well.

Maybe countrywide but opening weekend for it here has been really slow. Superbad has been beating it for nearly every showing.

It's not like it had much competition since the only other thing that opened that week was Balls of Fury.

A friend saw it and warned me to stay well away from it. I am going to heed his advice and wait for better things...

i guess i misread my estimate, not 30 million in one day but for the weekend. Still considered a labour day weekend hit.

i went to it tonight, i enjoyed, much bloddier then the original. Rob Zombie likes to bring his actors back for more movies, the guy who played the graveyard guy was the clown guy in devil's rejects and the first Rob zombie movie, and i believe michael's mother was Babygirl from the first 2 Zombie films. I dont care i liked the movie but the original was better just cause it was the original scare of it all, its been done a million times now.

I'm looking forward to it, mainly b/c I just love the Halloween film mythos. I'm not expecting it to be enjoyable as the first, so I hoping that is enough not to dissapoint.

For a horror film, Halloween's numbers are outstanding when you look at it in a historical context.

FYI, I heard Superbad kicks all kinds of ass and can't wait to see that either.

Saw it today. The theatre was almost deserted, but it appears MOST of the few who were there went to see HALLOWEEN! Including... (AUGH!!!) WHO-- THE HELL-- takes a BABY-- to a HORROR movie????? (An employee told me after the show they do have a strict rule about it, but on a "skeleton shift" things sometimes slip by. For once, I was glad they had the sound up TOO DAMN LOUD-- "the theory being to cover one kind of noise with yet another", as my favorite folk-singer once said.)

WAY bloodier and MUCH more brutal, yet you don't actually "see" too much-- a very strange line to walk. My gripe was more with the overuse of close-ups and shaky hand-held camera technique, making it difficult to see what (or who) you're looking at.

MOST interesting thing in the film reminded me of THE HOWLING-- its casting of a large number of "genre" actors who we never see enough of. It's as though Zombie were trying to be Corman (or Dante) but the film's too ugly to be by either. Among the cast...

Malcolm McDowell (CLOCKWORK ORANGE)
Richard Lynch (INVASION USA)
William Forsythe (THE UNTOUCHABLES tv series from the 90's)

Right there you've got 3 of the WORST psychos in film history! But wait, there's more!

Sybil Danning (BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS)
Dee Wallace (THE HOWLING)
Sid Haig (JASON OF STAR COMMAND)
Micky Dolenz (HEAD)
Danielle Harris (HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS)

Apart from wanting to see this just because I've seen the previous 8 (as has my pal down south, Kevin), I mainly was looking forward to seeing Danielle Harris. SIGH! What happened to her (or didn't) was the ONE thing in the film I was really happy about.
