Lemnos has the power of one of the characters from the 'Static' comics produced by Milestone, specifically it was the rather cool power of being ignored. Lemnos has in his 'one power' a variant of invisibility, hypnosis, and control of electronics (since everything is based on telepathy in the future its not unbelievable his power works on machines-which answers alot of questions I had).

I personally like the man but feel very little 'emotional connection' right now to the man because he's starting a war basically for his own glory. He's got no real connection to the characters and thus isn't really yet a 'great' villain.

Lemnos and the Terror-Formers are worthy additions to the Rogues' Gallery overall though. I am interested when the Arc is done that we do get some old blood though.

It's a peculiar power. One strange thing in the Legion context is that the society already uses "psi-scramblers" which not only confuse the words heard (as with issue #5's Delegate Klarkev of Prop Moccasin fame), but can make people forget events. Yet a person with this ability passes unsuspected - Lemnos' power must work differently from the psi-scramblers, or perhaps they haven't yet developed a jamming device to counter the effect of the scramblers.

Maybe only the SPs had psi-scramblers and didn't think anyone would use one against them - so no need of a countermeasure.

The other odd mirror to Lemnos' power is Lyle's computer virus sent into the SP system, which causes data to disappear.

For all his power, Lemnos still has the feel of slimeball about him. He operates with subterfuge, manipulating events and individuals, unknown/unremembered, no open confrontation (yet) - he's like a sickness permeating the galaxy.

i think brainy will be able to resist his power in time, or could adapt the flight rings to resist his power. and that projectra's gonna snap his neck, baxter style.

I like Lemnos so far. He has a really cool power and the ability to be ignored and unnoticed through out all of society means he can virtually do what ever he likes. He needs money? Simple. He walks into a bank goes behind the counter and removes the cash, food likewise. He can sit in on all the private meetings and learn all the secrets of the world which is handy for blackmail of course and no one will ever know he has been there.

His desire to be noticed and remembered is in direct conflict with his powers though and could be a driving force behind his sickness. He apparently wants to be seen and noticed and liked. He wants to be a hero and “save” the UP.

The more I think about Lemnos the more I see him as the loner who snaps and shoots people or plants the bomb that will make him famous. It’s sort of an “assassinate the president Mr Booth and your name will live in history forever” type situation. For someone who can never have friends or a girlfriend (after all the next day they would have forgotten who Lemnos was) the desire to be remembered in a good way might be too much.

I am curious to see how the Legion takes this guy down. After all how do you defeat an enemy if you can’t even remember that you should be fighting him in the first place? Are we going to see someone doing a “memento” and leaving clues around the place to remind him of what to do?

My impression was that Lemnos is unrecorded by electronic means because he causes people to unconsciously erase evidence of his presence. Maybe this is incorrect. Maybe it's simpler -- the camera records him, but because of his power people just overlook him.

It would be good comic-book justice if Projectra, using a variant of her power to cut through illusions, was the key to defeating Lemnos.

What I like about Lemnos so far is that he seems formidable, not just because of his power but how he applies it to his objectives. This makes him a true challenge for an organization like the Legion. And the Legion needs better villains.

On the other hand, Lemnos seems to walk clearly in the tradition of Universo, Dark Circle, President Chu, MacCauley/Ra's al Ghul etc. Powerful and/or rich people manipulating things behind the scenes with nefarious intent. I hope we see some other cool villains who are threats but perhaps have less cosmic aspirations.

...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"

My impression is that his power works on machines in basically the same way it works on humans. It is erases any data that gives evidence of his existence, be it human memory or electronically stored data.

I wonder if there's any way Triplicate Girl's memory sharing ability would be useful against him?

I'm not terribly impressed. It's a weasily power - good for a stealth enemy, but for a "powerful" guy starting a war? I dunno ... it also doesn't look like he offers much of a challenge to the Legion once you can find a way to not forget him. Once you beat his one trick, what's he got? Don't get me wrong, if he's an interesting character and the story's good, his actual powers won't matter to me. His intro was a hint more than a full explanation so I'm sure there's more to him.

probably not. at the moment it doesn't look like anyone even notices that they are forgetting something. but who knows, maybe Triplicate Girl's memory sharing will notice the missing data.

by the way, does anyone think that maybe just maybe, Lemnos is the reason the Legion was founded?

If he isn't playing the role of a malignant RJ Brande already, he has the opportunity to step in as the Legion's benefactor now that Jeckie's fortune is gone.

Saturn Girl might be the only one to pose a direct threat, assuming she could alter HIS brain before he altered hers.

Oh, I think it's obvious. That's why Luornu woke up suffering from amnesia.

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't take from the Klarkev scene that the psi-scramblers were going to wipe his memory...rather, that both the scramblers and the anticipated wipe were due to the Legion's schemes to prevent direct observation by the authorities. Hence Toling4rd only "half-" guaranteed the wipe even though Klarkev was already under the influence of the scramblers.

I think the scramblers' only function is messing with telepathic communication.

Lemnos has the benefit of a 'useful ability' but I will say he's a well designed villain for other purposes as well.

If they cut through his 'forgetfulness' power, he still has

1. A gigantic massive personal fortune that no doubt has only made him more powerful since he's probably the only zillionaire AWAY from Orando

2. He's a huge arms dealer in the galaxy which means he's got plenty of access to thugs

3. He controls his own superteam.

So he's got pretty much the whole "Lex Luthor" formula down pat minus scientific prowess but with a superpower of his own. It's also noteworthy he can restore memories he removes.

If (as we suspect) Lemnos is responsible for the destruction of Cargg, and now Orando, and is targeting Colu next, does he have an agenda directly aimed at the Legionnaires (beyond just general galaxy-wide disruption and panic)? We don't know if Carggites had the splitting power before the catastrophe. But, the catastrophe created Triplicate Girl. No doubt Orando's destruction will "catalyze" changes in Projectra as well, perhaps leading her to come into her own power. I have no idea what effect the destruction of Colu would have on Brainiac 5, besides making him all the more unique in the universe. So, is part of Lemnos's grand scheme to make the Legionnaires more exceptional, by destroying the "everybody has powers here" planets? Do his actions make our heroes more tied to the Legion and less tied to other allegiances? Are his atrocities intended to inflame anger and opposition in the Legion ("Release your hate, and your journey to the dark side will be complete!")? So many fun things to speculate about!

Yup. Exactly it, Harbinger.

And was anybody thinking Mnemnonic Kid?(mnemnomic? mnemonic? mneehhh??)

And just for true trivia nuts, was anybody thinking of that one panel that showed the science police arresting a guy for joining the Legion for criminal reasons and then NEVER seen again? Why don't nobody remember him, Huh? HUH?

And I belive this is what they intend. As a mistress of illusion, her power must have an inherent defense against confusion by illusions or she would get lost in those of her own making. Similar to the Sensor Girl ramp up, Jecki likely "sees" more clearly than anyone else. Now that she has a personal reason for getting involved, she is likely to be the one that will identify Lemnos as the culprit and will also be the one best able to handle him.

I can envision a quasi-Nemesis Kid scene in the near future laugh Wouldn't that surprise a few Legionnaires? Not so pampered a princess after all, huh Cos?
