PAUL and i were due to go on holiday on the 23rd of August to New York for 5 days !
but now after this terrible news, of this plot to blow up planes in mid air, the UK has had so many delays and cancelled flights, and news reports still saying that there may be a PLAN B for the terrorists !!
PAUL is really scared about taking a flight across the ATLANTIC !! [ he's not great with flying in the first place ] i really want to go, and at the moment, feeling confident that everything will be okay, especially with hightened security, but i can't make him go, and i wouldn't want him to be upset, when taking the flight !!
i feel like i'm stuck in the middle ..... not wanting to upset Paul, but also not wanting to upset myself, by not being able to go, as i've been looking forward to it !!
were gonna call the travel agent on Monday, to find out our options !! [ btw we didn't actually pay ANY money for this holiday, as it was paid using VOUCHERS that we get from buying L'OREAL products for the salon ]
what do you guys think ??
cheers
Matthew.

Man that's rough but one of the few things I've learned, it doesn't pay to attempt reason with a phobia. Like rtvu2, I don't think there's anything to be concerned with but it's still pretty much up to Paul to decide if he can get through it or not.
It'd be a shame to waste either the vouchers or the five days, something I'm sure is as obvious to him as to you. Just state your hopes and hope it works out your way. Any pressure or nagging will just lead to regrettable argument.

Matt, I am afraid that in this situation, I side with Paul. If I was you guys, I totally would not want to travel right now.
Everyone always says 'nothing will happen,' but we all know that in this day and age that's not always true. Clearly something was found out, and most experts believe that it is not yet over. Also with all the airport delay and cancellations and new restrictions being acted upon almost daily since the threat, it's becoming a bigger hassel then ever to fly internationally.
Can you compromise and postpone your New York adventure? Perhaps making it closer to the major holidays to take in the sights and sounds of the holiday lights and Rockefeller Center with the giant tree and the ice skaters and all the store windows done up?
I don't know..... It's a tought decision, but mostly you both have to do what you need to do to keep each other safe and happy.

I agree that it would be a shame to waste the vouchers if there's no way to reschedule. But it's really up to Paul. You can reassure him if he's nervous, but there's no need to pressure him or to try to convince him if he's not up for it. He may feel differently in a few days - ya never know.
I'll be in the air around the same time (flying down to Miami) and I tend to think any "Plan B" would likely not be so similiar to the first attempt. Still, I'm actually more apprehensive about longer lines at the airport (and I won't be able to bring my usual styling/facial products!).

thanks for the input and advice guys !
i guess at the moment, we just need to see what the travel agent may say !? [ when we phoned them yesterday, they said they had, had loads of these calls, but the main dept wasn't open until today ! ] so i just wonder what they'll say ??
at the moment PAUL's still pretty sure he doesn't want to FLY, and as mentioned by all, we don't want to fall out over this situation !!
.... we have been to NEW YORK before [ 5 times in fact ! ] so we're not 'missing' anything so to speak !
it's just annoying at the moment because, we'd had this booked months ago, and i was looking forward to it !!
oh well .... i'll keep you posted on the outcome !?
Matthew.

If Paul is really having anxiety about flying at this time, it's probably for the best to postpone your trip. Although I know you were looking forward to it, it's not going to be as much fun for either of you if he has to force himself on the plane. Best to wait awhile until things settle down a bit. Then you can make the trip when both of you are feeling confident about it. But that's just my opinion
Some people are like slinkys: not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you knock them down a flight of stairs

I tend to agree with most - if Paul's really set against it, don't go. His fers will probably damper the trip for the both of you.
And, as you say, you've been here before (not that this is no reason to go again); go somewhere off-beat, different.

That's a place to have a Legionworld Europe meet-up. Or anywhere in the Outer Hebrides. We could sit amongst the stones at Callanish making humming sounds.

hey all !!
well we phoned the travel agent, and they were quite helpful in some way !!
as i suppose thay didn't have to do anything, as nothing has actually happened [ yet ]
they said we could change the flights [ but would lose £100 on this booking ] but for the hotel that we'd booked, we would ONLY get 10% of the price paid back !!
so in total, we stand to lose about 40% of the total that we'd paid !! but as mentioned earlier, we didn't actually pay anything for the holiday [ as they are 'free' vouchers we get with work !! ]
so i've just emailed them to say that we'll phone tomorrow, to change the details !!
we're probably LUCKY that they are letting us change any of it !! and PAUL is still really aprehensive of flying to the states, he feels better about Europe, so i think we'll go to our usual place in MARBELLA / SPAIN [ as we still have time off booked from work, can't really change it to any other time at the moment !! ]
i just have to get the thought of NEW YORK out of my head !!
one of things that i had been really looking forward to was going there on WEDNESDAY the 23rd of AUGUST [ my birthday ] and being there on a Wedneday when the comics come out, and going to get them, i had also wanted to get a new iPod as they are SO much cheaper in the US !!
oh well .... that's life for ya !! you can't always have or get what you want !!

I'm sorry to hear that, Matthew. If it's any consolation, you're being a good husband.

Let me wish you guys an early Happy Anniversary!!! How wonderful for you and Paul to make it to such a big milestone. Brightest Blessings to both of you, and may you always cherish each other and remember everything you've been through together and everything you want for the future. You are a beautiful couple and you know each other so well that you want to take care of each other and honor each others strengths and forgive each others weaknesses. When it all comes down to the very basics, it doesn't matter where you take a vacation as long as it is together. Much love to you both

hey all !!
latest update on our NYC holiday, we've managed to change our booking [ still lost some money on it !! ] but we have changed it to something else !!
we're off to MARBELLA again, still leaving on the 23rd [ and staying for 7 nights ]
so it'll be still a really nice holiday, but just not in the action packed NYC !!
PAUL feels more comfortable with this, he's okay with the EUROPEAN flights, and i'm over my original upset about not going to NYC !!
so we're both now looking forward to going to Marbella instead, and if anything, this will be a more relaxing holiday, anyway !!
as NYC would have been, rushing around everyday, trying to do as much as possible !!
[ thanks again for the input and advice, everyone !! ]
Matthew.
