Maybe the story is that Claire survived but died in childbirth?
That plus Jin surviving to impregnate Sun. Still that does look like there should be one more survivor who then "died". To account for the eight who survived as you stated. But I don't think the story would be that Claire died in childbirth. I'm no doctor, but doesn't a newborn need mother's milk, if not from the actual mother then from a wet nurse? Unless they are claiming to have a supply of formula.

They might be able to get away with saying that Sun was already pregnant when the crash happened (it's only a few weeks off).

You're right about needing the mother's milk, though. I hadn't thought about that. Which means either a) they're claiming that Aaron is Kate's natural child [which would be difficult, as they have to claim she was eight months pregnant on the flight], or b) they're claiming that Claire survived for awhile but died before being rescued [which would account for the sixth person].

was this preview shown after the end episode 8 !?

and how long will it be till these next episodes air ??

i had thought we would have to wait MONTHS till we got more new episodes [ and am i right in thinking that this season will now run to 13 episodes, instead of the original 16 ??? ]

I think there's a five week break before the remaining five episodes.

UPDATE: It's been announced that we will actually be getting an extra hour this season! The season finale will be in three parts rather than two as originally announced (well, originally announced post-strike!)!

Here's the schedule:

April 24-- Episode 9
May 1-- Episode 10
May 8-- Episode 11
May 15-- Episode 12 (Season finale, Part 1)
May 29-- Episode 13/14 (Season finale, Parts 2 and 3)

Just one more day, peeps!

As a side note, it now seems pretty clear from the previews that my theory about the gunmen at the end of the last episode was wrong with it showing the gung-ho freighter guy holding Alex hostage.

Well, it was a fun theory, anyway!

Yeah, I wasn't happy with that.

Though I was actually expecting the revenge killing to take place at the end, so I was a bit relieved.

Yeah me too. That tension will definitely be there for the remainder of the show, so that's good planning on the writer's part, even if I'm not thrilled with how they achieved it (though mainly from a personnal standpoint b/c I liked her so much).

Very cool part with the Monster. Looking forward to more clues...

Whooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

<Sound of brain throwing a rod>

There are Rules. Widmore CHANGES Rules. Alex dies. Benjamin took Island from Widmore. Ben will kill Penelope in revenge for Alex. Sayid finds Nadia, marries her. She's killed. Benjamin crashes her funeral. There is a connection between the Island and the Sahara Desert. It causes vomiting, so it must have been created by Brainiac 5. Benjamin is a bada$$ motherf@*(%@r. Benjamin communicates with the Monster. The ship's doctor is dead. No he's not. Hurley can find Jacob, but Ben no longer can.

Not to mention that Ben's teleporter technology seems to have been designed by Brainiac Five!

I wonder why Widmore would want to have Nadia killed? That didn't really make sense to me, so I have to wonder if something else was going on with that and if Ben was just spinning her death that way to manipulate Sayid.

Nadia's murder would unhinge Sayid, sending him into the same depression as Jack. Maybe Widmore is hoping Syaid would seek solace on the island.

We really did learn a lot. Even little things like Faraday knowing all along that they weren't going to rescue the Losties shows volumes about his particular character that we weren't aware of. The time craziness with the doctor is a really cool plot point (looking forward to actually seeing him die now! laugh )

The actor who plays Ben (just like Locke, Jack and some others) is basically having the role of a lifetime here, and is knocking it out of the park. The acting is just so good that you can't help but be enthralled.

Another little thing: Sawyer rescuing Claire and in her daze, she calls him Charlie.

I thought Sawyer's heroic behavior this episode exemplified how much character growth he's had. The old Sawyer would've just done everything he could to save number one. His concern for Claire and his unwillingness to leave Hurley behind were both very touching. It's nice to see that Sawyer's too recent murders in cold blood didn't harden him to those feelings.

Side note: wasn't it a little harsh that none of the redshirts in Locke's group made it out alive?

It's even harsher that the main cast seemed so concerned over looking for Claire, but not over any of the redshirts.

Yeah, I didn't like that. Those people survived for three seasons through monsters, hatches, others, crazy french women, etc., and I didn't like seeing three of them gunned down so easily. I hope *all* of the redshirts don't end up biting it before the show's finish.

Lostpedia's list of survivors has 49 of the 71 human survivors of the crash still alive. I count that 35 of the 48 middle section survivors are still alive, as far as we know.

So... a dream sequence used to fake out a flash forward. Very telling on the love quadrangle.

Another great episode with some cool bits.

- Hurley's words to Jack about Aaron were actually pretty creepy! That plotline, from Claire's first episode, actually always give me the most goose-bumps.

- Very cool stuff with Claire and Chirstian Shepard. We finally got more hints of Christian being more than the theories I've seen with that 4 minute podcast thingy, and then with Hurley seeing him in Jacob's tent, but actually talking to Claire and bringing her somewhere? That's pretty damn cool! Looks like Jack's not the only one to see her. Another thing to consider: Miles can "see" ghosts, and that might be why he saw Christian too.

- Good to see Juliet, Bernard, Sun & Jin doing stuff. Jin's conversation with Charlotte was cool.

- We do have mention that "Sawyer stayed behind".

- Jack and Kate were brillant (the actors) in this episode. Its the first time I've actually liked them as a couple since season one. Both are still obviously coping with what happened on the Island its tragic to watch Jack succumb to all the pressure and even slightly become like his father. Kate obviously can't give up having secrets (nor can Jack).

One thing I don't like is that Rosseau actually appears to be really dead! I didnt' actually believe this for a second. Unless she managed to fake it all somehow. The one cool thing that could happen is Miles is able to talk to her in the future. Basically, I just always wanted a Rosseau flashback.

I think it's only through the ghost of Christian that Jack will find out about Claire and Aaron.

The Hurley in Jack's dream just reinforces my opinon that the island's story will be reset when all this is done.

Good to see Bernard doing stuff, he's always been a background guy, here's hoping we see more of Rose now too.

And Jin still has that thug side to him. Here's hoping he gets to play that up more before we're done.

Ceej--are you going on the presumption that it was a dream Jack was having and not a flash-forward? I thought it was certainly a flash-forward. Did I miss a scene?
