This from Zap2It:

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Not since Jude Law changed into a bathing suit has there been more discussion about a man's endowment. Now the folks behind the upcoming "Superman Returns" weigh in on what truly makes the Man of Steel.
"There was more discussion about Superman's 'package' than anything else on the suit," costume designer Louise Mingenbach says in the Sept. 12 issue of Newsweek, currently on newsstands. "Was it too big? Was it not big enough? Was it too pointy? Too round?"

Undeterred, Warner Bros. decided to dedicate their efforts to getting Superman's anatomy just right.

"It was somebody's job for about a month just working on codpiece shapes," adds Mingenbach. "It was crazy."

Crazy is the word for the antics on set, as described by Parker Posey, who plays Lex Luthor's girlfriend Kitty Koslowski.

"Poor Brandon," she says, referring to Brandon Routh, who plays the iconic superhero. "He's got everyone touching him all the time. He's lying on his stomach and he's got five people coming up and pulling his underwear down, sticking their hands up the butt of his suit."

The 25-year-old Routh didn't make much about suffering for his art since he says he's "OK with myself and with my space."

"Superman" centers on the Man of Steel's return to Earth after a four-year absence. He discovers that former flame Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) is now a mother and affianced to another man (James Marsden). The Bryan Singer-directed film -- co-starring Kevin Spacey, Frank Langella and Sam Huntington -- is currently shooting in Australia and is set for a June 2006 release.

Whoa! Wait a minute.

Lois is not only, NOT, going to be with Superman, but is a single parent?

How are the ultra conservatives going to react to that?

I'm not sure about the ultra conservatives, but it sounds like yet another stupid add on to the myth that movie makers seem to need. UGH.

This doesn't sound too promising. The WB better start making movies about their comic characters instead just adding them as fodder to some idiot's pet movie project.

I've read the whole article. Routh does not look the part at all, especially seeing his picture next to all the other actors to have played Superman over the years. The worst part is they seem to be setting it up so that if this movie tanks, they're going to blame it on non-angst-ridden heroes just not being popular.

"On an external level, the movie's about how an idealistic superhero functions in the modern world," Singer says, sitting in his trailer on the Sydney lot. "But it ultimately becomes a story about what happens when an old boyfriend comes back into your life, and about Superman trying to find a place in Lois Lane's world. This is certainly the most romantic, and the funniest, movie I've mad, and toward the end it gets a bit intense."

How will this fit into Chris Reeves movies..I mean why did he leave Earth for 4 years??

It's gotta be an alternate timeline.

Singer said it's meant to pick up where Superman II left off. (or maybe it was III)

*SPOLER* (higlight to read)

Apparently, the child is Superman's. Remember in II when he lost his powers? That's when he boinked Lois. After he got his powers back, he leaves Earth for 10 years or so. Lois has the baby while Superman is away.

Routh doesn't appear to be good at all. My main complaint is we have Tom Wellington playing Superboy and the kid is a stud.

Routh makes a good Clark Kent but not sure about Superman.

Also in Batman the guy is 210 all muscle...Superman isn't? I don't want a super muscular guy but if you are show Superboy to be 6'3" all muscle...Superman's gotta have a commanding stature. Christopher Reeves was 6'4" and had that commanding look. This guy? No way.

I'm not too thrilled by Tom Welling, either - what happened to Gerard Christopher from the other Superboy series?

Routh is actually younger than Welling too and they told Welling he was too young for the part. WTF?

But at least Kevin Spacey does look pretty good as Lex Luthor. He's the latest pic .

Semi..thanks for the heads up. You know in a bizarre way that could be an interesting story. But we did have a few other Superman sequels and you know who was not you know what.

Every new bit of information/picture I see about this movie puts a big ol' Superman lovin' grin on my face.

I think it will be awesome.

And I actually really like the new developments in Lois and Clark's relationship. My favourite Superman movie was the 2nd one which in itself was a pretty flashy, radical departure from the Lois/Clark status quo so there is a precedent for this sort of thing working.

You know, Christopher Reeve has reached icon status. But at the time the movies came out, not everyone thought he was the perfect Superman. I remember one reviewer opining that watching Reeves kiss Kidder was like watching two lipless corpses kiss. Of course, we all love Christopher Reeves now. My point is, let's give Brandon Routh the benefit of the doubt. Wait and see.

I was glad a Fantastic Four movie was on the way. Now I wish they had left it unmade.

I defintly do not have a good vibe about the new Supes movie.

It might be too late to cast for the new Superman movie, but wouldn't it be a coup to have Margot Kidder play Ella Lane, Lois's mother?

The problem with the Routh and Reeves comparison is now there are so many superhero movies.

We do have some stars in this one (i didnt know Spacey was Luthor...wow) but I see Routh being compared to the likes of Christian Bale, the Spider kid (Tobey Maguire?), the X-Men star cast, and yes...Ben Affleck as Daredevil.

Plus I don't care for the costume. I've talked to some of buds who love films...and the summer eye candy...and non are planning to see it. It will be interesting to see how it does.

There's an interesting article by Erik Larsen on the CBR website on why these superhero movies never seem to work. The only one I've really thought worked well was Spiderman. Every other hero movie I've ever seen made me feel like I was watching something for kids--yes, even Burton's Batman. The guy couldn't freaking turn his head! How was he supposed to fight?
