Well, the lettercol is back! The following Q&A appeared in DC's "Ask the Editor" column at dccomics.com. You can read the column HERE . I'm loving the new LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES! Smart, fun sci-fi with a generous helping of nostalgia. I'm curious, though. What is the official philosophy or charter of the Legion? It's alluded to in issue one, but I don't think it was ever fully stated.
—Jacob R.I'd love to answer this, Jacob, but Legion leader Cosmic Boy has just time-bubbled in and stolen all my Legion mail. You can find the answer to this and many other Legion questions in the debut of Letters to the Legion, making its first appearance in next month's LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #6.
—Stephen Wacker, Editor, LEGION OF SUPER-HEROESSwell news, but I wonder if it means only 29 pages of story from now on?

Honestly, I'd probably give up a page of story for a good letter column like in the Levitz/TMK eras. Those pages were packed with great stuff and they make nearly as interesting reading as the issues themselves. The impermance of what we post here (I know nothing on the net ever really goes away so they say) but a fan picking up the last several years of stories are going to be missing out.

Awright!
On behalf of the nine of us who went to Dallas and raised the issue (I think it was Miner, actually?) in front of Wacker (gaining a roomful of applause, I must add), I hereby claim credit for our motley group!

Wohoo!! (=shameless plug=)
The hardest part of a letter column these days is getting real LETTERS !! Write to the Legion soon! Right away!
NOT e-mails but real 'dead trees' copies.
Write one to Steve and company this week! You have absolutely nothing to lose!
(=/shameless plug=)
Does anyone have an address so we know where to send snail mail?

DC Comics, 1700 Broadway, New York, NY 10019. It's in the fine print on the page with next month's previews, usually near the back of the comic.
In "Previews", the letters page is listed as starting with issue #7. I trust there will be an announcement in the book itself next issue.

KICK ASS! Wacker had strongly implied he, Mark & Barry wanted this to happen, but I honestly didn't think it would happen as long as DC's "no letters page" dealie was in effect.
I too don't mind losing 1 page of art/story (if this is indeed the case) as long as the letters page is as good as the Adventure/Levitz/TMK eras.
Title of column? TELL IT TO TENZIL!

I'm not sure I'm as happy as the rest of you are about this. Sure, a great letter column can add a lot to my enjoyment of a comic. But when was the last time you actually read one of those? The only really good letter columns I can remember were ones from comics more than 20 years old that I bought in the back-issue bins. The columns need to be engaging and provoke discussion - not just another chance for the creators to pat themselves on the back. But how much discussion is really going to occur in them in this age of the internet? If the letter columns are going to be anywhere near as bad as they were during the PMS era (when the hideously syconphantic nature of *every single* printed letter was so greatly at odds with the drek we were reading on the page - a factor that actually contributed to my dropping the series) then I know what my first letter is going to say - "Bring back the extra page of story!" (Though like Lash, I would really like to see that little pic of the Legionnaires opening the mail. ![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/smile.gif) Loved that in the old JLA comics!)

I started reading comics in the 90's which was way past the point of interesting letter columns. So, I don't have good memories of them like other people do. And I didn't really mind when Marvel and DC eliminated them a few years ago.
The only letter columns I've liked have been in the Astro City books and the one Robert Kirkman does in Marvel Team-Up.
So, I wonder if this "Letter to the Legion" will be more of a traditional letter column or if it will be more unique. Like Marvel Team-Up, I hope Mark and Barry will be more involved than the editor.

I was wondering if any of you would be up to writing a collaborative missive that we could mail in on behalf of Legion World? Get all of us in print in one issue.

Can we not email the letter column?

That would have to be an e-mail though wouldn't it Scott? I'd love to show our support with a single letter to Steve and Barry and Mark but I also know that Steve made a point of telling us to write actual letters. We could do both. Each of us that wants to say something could contribute a sentence to a "letter to the Legion" that we could all sign here at LW AND sens a snail mail that Steve gets to open at his desk with his letter opener and show around the office, get a laugh, pin to the dartboard, add to his resume, whatever.
This is SO exciting!

Great news! I certainly don't mind losing a page for this! Now we have to flood them with mail, so that Legion gets the most mail as it did in the 70's!
Ah, I remember when I was 9 and wrote a letter to the Avengers staff. It wasn't really that great of a letter so they didn't print it, but the editor actually took the time to reply to my letter personally! Or when Dick Giordano and my Dad used to exchange letters every few months! Letter columns kick ass!

I'll start. Dear Mr. Wacker, Please have your creative team start naming the various obscure characters in the series so that Legion World can start making proper graemlins of them. Past Legion throwaways such as Iresa, Holt, & Ansis, to name a few have taken on lives of their own just by being named in an issue. Thanks. Sincerely, Nightcrawler http://www.legionworld.net

GROOVY IDEA! I'll continue--
Dear WaK & Wacker,
The current Legion space-rawks, but I am wondering why you all are prejudiced against fat people and people who eat matter in all forms.
Please rectify this by adding Bouncing Boy & Matter-Eater Lad ASAP.
Love,
MLLASH
ps. Add Infectious Lass too. She kicks nass, just ask Gail Simone.
