Released in 1980 and set in the far-flung future of 1994, THE APPLE has always been one of my favorite crappy movies since I first saw it on HBO when I was a kid!
I was so excited it was released on DVD! I got it today!
From the DVD case:
"When folk singers Alphie & Bibi enter the WORLD VISION song contest, their wholesome appeal catches the evil eye of music mogul Mr. Boogalow, a Faustian fiend who promises the pair fame and fortune. Seduced by Bogalow's devilish denizens, Bibi surrenders her soul and soon becomes a superstar... and a pawn in Bogalow's plot to take over the planet with the power of pop music! Now, Alphie must free Bibi from Boogalow... AND save the world from rock-n-roll ruin!"
Chock-full of biblical parallels, stuff that was no doubt considered indie-rock back then but is pretty tame by today's standards (Boogalow's # 1 act is a brother/sister singing act named BIM, but dig it-- the guy's WHITE and the chick's BLACK!! and Boogalow's assistant is not only black, but GAY too! WOW!) and really bad music (although a couple of numbers are pretty good-- the BIM sister does a great disco number called "Coming For You" when she is attempting to seduce Alphie and "Love: The Universal Melody" is sweet), this movie is a camp-lover's MUST-HAVE!
It's been years since I've seen it, can't wait to play the DVD!
