I'm not very familiar with his work but he seems to have the right "look" at least.

Carol loved him in Tudors. But whats the deal with DC casting so many danged for'ners in american roles?

I liked Routh's portrayal fine (even if the movie was as boring as hell). This new guy doesn't yet have 'the look' to my eyes, but I'm sure that I'll get over that, if the writing is good.
The chatter about other actors that were considered for the role, such as Matt Bomer (from White Collar), was interesting.

From what I've seen, the list of actresses for a female role other than Lois is much better than the one for Lois.

I haven't seen this guy in anything before but he's definitely good-looking. Probably a bit more 'rugged' than any of the previous actors in the role who were all a little generically 'safe good-looking' (if that makes sense). I thought Routh did a good job in the previous one (he was actually the best thing about that disappointing movie IMO) but I'm glad they're going with someone slightly older-looking for this one. I wanna watch SuperMAN, not SuperBOY (unless he comes with a Legion of friends ). I'd actually have rathered someone even older looking in the part but c'est la vie. Now I just REALLY REALLY hope that Lex Luthor is NOT the villain in this movie. He is so played out on screen. Brainiac, Silver Banshee, Parasite, Maxima, Prankster, Deathtrap... any one of them could be well used as a live-action adversary. Looking forward to seeing what Zack Snyder does with it too. I really enjoyed Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen so hope he impresses me here too.

B, you and me both. Lex is overplayed. He's not the only villain that Supes has. If they want anything more than just to do comic movie retreads every ten years, like they are sort of doing with Batman, they need to put some new folk in the mix. Atomic Skull, Doomsday, Mongol, heck, even Terra Man. They need to ramp it up. yeah, supes should save a cat from a tree or something, but we need to see him in action, not just lifting big chunks of rock. Thats why Supes II was such a hit, even with the bad acting. It actually HAD action. An opponent that Supes had to face that could actually go toe to toe with him.

I think Lex should be a background character in this.
I would would range it like this...just because these always seem to be three movie arcs:
Movie 1 - Touch on origin in opening credits. Supes is already established. Lex creates Bizarro. Bizarro starts stealing things to create his own (home) world on the moon (or Mars)...you get the idea though,
Movie 2 - Throw a handful of villians at him. Who says they all have to have oorigins in the movies. Thinking Bloodsport, Banshee and have them finish out with the big gun and the one that Lex is obviously involved with...Metallo. Metallo pops up throughout the beginning of the movie, but Superman keeps getting distracted by the others.
Movie 3 - Lexcorp Computer, which has been seen throughout the first two movies, is integrated with some stolen technology from the Fortress of solitude by the Neutron in the opening battle of the movie in which Superman has to let him escape for whatever reason. This leads to the creation of Brainiac...who was trapped in whatever tech was stolen by Neutron. Lexcorp is overtaken by Brainiac, and giant shiney metal Brainiac (with skull ship and smaller drones) attack.
Just my quick thoughts.
Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

I actually read an article about this at work on our wire services last week (unfortunately, I can't find it online, and I don't remember who it was), and it basically boils down to two things, according to the Hollywood producers, et al, they interviewed. 1. American actors aren't manly enough. One producer said "Inception" was the first thing he saw Leonardo DiCaprio in where he thought the actor had grown into being "a man." I'm sure we could all name plenty of manly men actors, but not on the lists they're looking at. The few they did find routinely turn down these roles because of fear of typecasting and getting roped into long sequel commitments. Or, like Joe Manganiello (in this case, "True Blood's" guy was a top choice), they're tied up in TV series with the growing list of shows that require these actors. But Hollywood is filled with pretty boys -- a problem I had with Brandon Routh as Superman. 2. American actors aren't well trained enough. There are exceptions, but most of these foreign actors have classical training and have done theater. They know how to act with their whole bodies, which is important when that body is clad in spandex. Many American actors, they say, are fine from the neck up but lack the physical gravitas. I like Cavill's looks for the role, at least. I never saw "Tudors" or his other work, so we'll see if he can act and overcome his accent.

Oh, and while Lex is always present and you just know he has a hand in the events happening...Superman cannot touch him because he covers his tracks so well. Kinda like the way he was portrayed in John Byrnes early Superman stuff... Always present, but not the constant main focus.
Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

Call me old school, but I'd love to see the Ultra-Humanite as the main villain in a Superman movie. Make him a former LexCorp employee who is trying to destroy Lex, so the Supes is put in the awkward situation of having to defend Lex, while simultaneously trying to prove that he is corrupt.
The cool thing about U-H is that he can both create menaces to challenge Supes on a physical level, but plus there's the element of mind-transference, which can create an added level of challenge, as Supes won't necessarily know who he is at the moment. I imagine some final scene where U-H has possessed one of Luthor's aides, and Supes barely saves him at the last moment.

A Brainiac movie could also be killer, as long as they go all out sci fi on it, with Brainiac as a city-stealing space invader, ala his first appearance.

Cavill is a fantastic actor--he was excellent in Tudors! I'm more excited by his addition than anything else regarding the Superman movie franchise.
Hope they can get a solid Lois.

I enjoyed Cavill in the few episodes of Tudors that I saw. However, I was also very pleased with the casting Brandon Routh in Superman Returns which was a beautiful and under rated film.
Brainiac as the villain would make for an awesome Superman movie.
Beauty's where you find it. Not just where you bump and grind it.
