The new Apple iPad reminds me of a McCauley Omnicrom...

It is kind of like that, isn't it? But are you willing to read your comics on it?

Yes, on Project Runway.
I'm wondering the same thing.

That would be fun, even though the surface dimensions are a little small.

Would be bigger than Windows Paint, though. And a plus of not having to draw with a mouse! Now I'm obsessed with it. I'll have to start pitching a hissy until someone gets me one...!

Bah! Bah I tells ya. Can you roll it up, stick it in your pocket and take it to the beach? No...not without risk of damage.

Can you swat a fly with it? Yes. But, not without risk of damage to it.

Can, in an emergency, you use it as toilet paper? No. Just....no.

Can you shred it and use it to light a fire if lost in the woods in winter and you have to try and drive off a pack of starving wolves? No. Feh. Feh I say.

Yes, definitely. Imagine taking ALL your books (and comics) with you and read *whatever* you want to read!

I *want* such an item, but right now, I can't afford it. Maybe later this year...

Can it make you forget the crushing misery of existence, if only for a little while?

Yes -- but liquor is cheaper.

What Raging Bull said.

Also, I don't get those techie weirdos like rickshaw1 and their high-toned "pads of paper." I just bundle together my piles of threatening letters from my various "friends" at the credit card companies and do my writing/drawing on the blank side.

The rest of you are melting down the icecaps with your wanton overconsumption and making the polar bears cry. You should hang your heads in shame.

I'm torn right now. I do want a digital reader, but none of them are a complete package. The Kindle has the most books available to it. The iPad has more versatility. As I understand it, none of them have a pdf reader or a comic book app. iPad's ability to watch videos and play music give it an edge, but I don't need another music player, and it is bulkier.

And of course the price for any of them...

Just spouting off.

I was talking to some people at work about this recently. I think in order for digital media to really take off, they'll have to make the prices for books and other things much lower than the printed versions.

I personally don't like reading online; I know if comics go exclusively digital I'll basically stop reading most of them. I like having a physical periodical in my hands. Despite what people say about a generation-gap, I don't think thats an uncommon feeling; if you're going to get people to buy material online and read it on an Ipad (or whatever), you have to overcome that lack of ownership--and the way to do that is to lower prices.

If a book is $9.99 and buying an online version is $9.99, I feel really cheated. Because what am I buying? I don't actually own anything. But if they lower the price to $4.99, then that's another story--I feel like I'm getting a deal.

Cobie, I get what you mean. I was saying the same thing when the Kindle first came out.

I've been noticing a lot of clutter in my place. With a move pending, trimming it down had me thinking. I don't have a cd collection anymore, all my music is digital. With Netflix, On Demand, Hulu, my dvd collection is similarly pared down. I imagine my book collection will go digital at some point as well.

Just spouting off.

Well, I do see the advantage that scissors probably won't cut an iPad, but I bet it's pretty useless against a rock.
