...shout Hurray if you're happy on the job.
Ever since I saw kidflash2fan post about her new job, I was wondering about how satisfied people were with their current jobs. If people had their 'druthers, what would they rather be doing with their lives?
I teach at a high school students in Canada and I don't know about my American counterparts, but it's a very respectable and well paying profession. (I'm not in a private school either.) Still, there are those who believe it to be a cushy job with summers off, but we take home work every night and every weekend (the marking for an English teacher is the albatross that never comes off until the end of June), coach, tutor, sit on committees and attend a myriad of after school and evening functions. Kids are kids and they really are not that different from 15 years ago when I started this career. It's a busy life and far from cushy, but for the most part, it makes me happy (craptastic pile of exams I have to mark in front of me not withstanding).
What would I rather be doing? If I had the talent, what would every English teacher love? -to write a book!
So how happy are you with your jobs? Are you one of those "I love going to work every day!" types or "Take this job and shove it!" types?
Spew.

I work at an office doing data entry for $13 dollars an hour. I like my office environment and my bosses are cool but there's a lot of micromanaging and poor structuring that I find irritating. And there's definitely a feeling of people looking for you to mess up at times. That's sort of stressful, y'know?
Also, my job is really boring. I mean really. Some days it feels like a monkey could do it. Or a computer. I feel very marginalized on those days. And useless. Like an appliance or something. Because my brain? Not a requirement.
But I do like it okay. I mean, I get to bounce on an exercise ball while I work, which is kinda fun. And some days move pretty fast, which is good. The girls are nice and the dress code is lax and we get free food in the break room. (All carbs, of course.) It's not a bad gig, though.
As Dr. Jorge would say, "Good enough is good enough." That's basically how I feel about the job right now. Now, if I had my university degree and I worked there? I'd probably be muuuuuch more frustrated. But I don't so it's okay. For now.

I've been at my job for about four years now and I absolutely love it. I'm a Reinsurance Broker. I had a tremendous amount of luck in finding my boss (who hired me) at a time in his career where he's been around a long time, has a great deal of knowledge to impart but overall wants to enjoy life while he's working. So I jumped right into ever aspect of the job and enjoy it: mainly creating new deals, but also running accounts, underwriting, accounting, contract work, claims and other facets. I've taken on several of his smaller accounts as my own and even gained a few of my own (and I help him do all our large accounts). Four years into it I'm the only other full time broker at our company and I've been promoted to Assistant Vice President. I travel a real lot: mainly all across the United States with some trips to London and Germany (though my schedule is so tightly packed with work I haven't had the chance yet to really visit any friends while I'm traveling). I go to Oklahoma City like six times a year for the past four years. I've come to really love traveling, even when I'm by myself, which I find relaxing and almost like a vacation day. I go to Manhattan about once a week from May to November. I take clients to dinners, lunches, plays in NYC, baseball games, special events (went to this past year's Heisman Award Ceremony, it was awesome!), etc. All on the company's money too might I add Reinsurance is this obscure industry with not that many people and tons of money in this mega corporations. I'm not there yet, but one day I plan on taking this industry for all its worth Until then, I enjoy doing my job: part-time 'go to guy' at my company for anything relating to an account, and part-time professional schmoozer. All that charm I practiced on Alt Ids paid off

I'm a Security Guard here in the Alberta oilsands. I really like my job, good hours, great pay, awesome schedule. My boss is great and my co-workers are fun as well. However, WAY back when i was in high school i had a dream of being an engineer. I am finally acting on that dream...I have applied to a local college for a power engineering program ( a VERY high demand job). This coming tuesday i have a interview at the school in question and hopefully will know if i'm accepted for the november intake semester within a few weeks. In all I like my job but its not a career, but I am moving towards the career

I manage the office and do web-editing for a weekly newspaper. For the most part I like my job. I really should be compensated a little better and micromanaged a lot less but it's casual and nobody bitches if I come in 15 minutes late (because they all come in later than I do) and sometimes we get beer and drink on the clock. I've been in the job for 5 years, with the company for 7 (a personal record).
Druthers having would involve illustrating comics. I've hesitated to ever submit any of my work mostly because I'm afraid to actually get hired and potentially ruin my love for something I do to relax, by having to do it all the time. But I'm starting to change my thinking on that... a little.
Is that a moon?

I can be happy about being jobless so long as I can pretend I'm in a parallel universe where money doesn't matter. Keeping the document shredder right by the front door so one can shred the bills right as they come in is very helpful...
Hey, Kids! My "Cranky and Kitschy" collage art is now viewable on DeviantArt! Drop by and tell me that I sent you. *updated often!*

Why yes, yes it does, but quickly goes down hill, insulting, and more than a little misogynistic. I'm not a woman, but I haven't played one on TV either.
