Good observations, Matthew. I bought it shortly after it was released, and it's taken me several listens to appreciate it. Kate's more than earned the right to make her music more challenging, and I would definitiely rate "Aerial" among her better albums.

I've found this to be true of all of Kate's albums (with the exception of "Lionheart", which I feel is her worst album). All of them require patience, but all of them reward the listener in excess of the investment.
Here's a question: since Kate's records are often seen as "inaccessible" ("The Dreaming"), if you like Kate Bush, what song got you hooked?
For me, it was "Hounds of Love". A friend of mine had the "Hounds of Love" album, and I thought, "Dogs barking for a chorus?" I must have listened to the song twenty times, then I listened to the rest of the album, and the rest is history.

Great question. My answer would have to be "Reaching Out," from "The Sensual World." As a confused high-schooler, I heard it and thought, "She understands. I'm not the only one who feels that way and has never lost that sense of curiosity and wonder, even when they've brought unpleasant responses."

How old is Ms. Bush now? I remember when she brought out "Wuthering Heights" and "Babooshka" - both awesome songs!

Isn't she 47 or something? Anyways, I'm gonna buy this album when I have the time to go to a record store. Oh and yay, my first post.

The quality of the "Aerial" album inspired me to start re-playing my entire Kate Bush collection. Recently, I reached the premature best-of collection The Whole Story. Up until now, the only reason I owned it was because of the excellent non-album song "Experiment IV", and I had always looked at the new version of "Wuthering Heights" with the re-recorded vocal as pointless.
But now, "Wuthering Heights" Version 2 sounds better to me than it ever has. I now realize that the original vocal from the The Kick Inside's version of WH is all youthful exhuberance and rough edges, while the second vocal from the TWS version of WH is grown-up professionalism at its most seamless. And they're both equally good in their own right.
What a genius Kate is. I hope her next album takes far less than 12 years.
