Unfortunately, I have AOL, and I never could find a way to make AOL work with Linux. Until I fix that problem (i.e. get a new service provider), I won't have Linux. Plus, I'm a gamer, and Linux doesn't work so well with games designed for Windows.

What double post?? wink

I'm in hte process of ordering more memory for an old clunker - from close to 9 years ago. It's only got 48 megs, so I'm gonna up that to about 256. THAT should help the speed of the P2.

Anyway, I may start out with Mandrake and see how well that goes. However, I'm sorta toying with SuSE. Just to see what I can do with it.

Hey Beagz, my boyfriend is a Linux/Unix/Debian/Solaris, etc.etc. guy. He is kind of a computer historian who loves to collect obscure and obsolete computers and make them useful again. He has over 100 so far--Sun machines, SGI boxes, you name it. If you ever need any advice I could hook you guys up.

HEY, GORGEOUS!!!!

If you and your boyfriend are ever interested in adopting, I'm available!!!!!

Right now, I just need to do some reading to see if I can get mysql loaded on this linux box. If I can, then I'm writin' my comic book database.

Grife ... I'm such a geek. I'm having too much fun with this. wink

I take that back.

Can you or your boyfriend suggest a database that's fairly easy to install and easy to use for Linux?

After all, if there's something better (and easier) than MySQL, NOW would be the time to find out. (Still wish Informix had a free Linux version!!!!!!)

Thanks!!!

Well I know nothing about such things, but Shawn likes MySQL. He says they have good online documentation and that it should be a simple install needing only minor configuration. It's all Greek to me so I'm a probably a lousy interpreter, but if you need any help I can PM you his email address.

As for adoption, I'm really not the maternal type. But if you can cook and clean we might be able to work something out. smile

Cook???
Did someone say "cook"??????

I fixed stuffed chicken breast for Grandmother last week. Along with a low-carb version of twice baked potatoes (cauliflower boiled, seasoned, with added cheese stuffed in a bell pepper), scalloped (sp) corn, ham, and various other things.
Along with lemon bread and fresh fruit for breakfast. (When she wasn't making hotcakes. laugh )

And I'm glad to know he likes MySQL. That makes me feel a little better about attempting this little trial!!!!!

THANKS!!!!!
