It seems that the famously anti-gay ex-Australian Rupert Murdoch (he gave up his Australian citizenship to become an American) is attempting to push his own agenda on the social networking site Myspace that he bought a few years back.

Myspace no longer lets you select “gay” as a sexual preference on the site when you sign up, nor does it allow you to change your sexual preference to “gay”.

Don’t believe us? Try it out for yourself by clicking on “Edit Profile” and then “Background and Lifestyle” if you’re on Rupert’s site.

Murdoch is well known for his anti-gay stance. Speaking to the Independent in the UK last year about gay marriage, he said: “I believe it is wrong. I’m considered homophobic and crazy about these things and old fashioned. But I think that the family – father, mother, children – is fundamental to our civilisation.”

Is is a meaningless bug or a meaningful message? Either way, Rupert better get back to writing some code to fix it. You don’t want to be on the receiving end of a flotilla of fags, trust us.

Well, Great Caesar's Ghost. I have had a MySpace page for over a year now, and my "gay" status hasn't changed. I went to edit my profile and you are quite correct, Joeboy. One can still identify oneself as "bi" or "lesbian", but the "gay" option has been removed.
I guess I'll have to change my profile pic to the one with the pink triangle armband, ala Nazi Germany.
Do you suppose that on Hitler's reincarnation application the "Austria" slot was full so they bumped him up to "Australia"?

That has to be a developer error. I bet "bi" gets changed to "gay" shortly.

Oh yeah. If you can still choose bi or lesbian I am sure it's just an error.

(Rupert buying the dow scares me! Maybe Bill Gates will do economic warfare with him. But then Rupert will tell the churches to tell the people not to buy computers! And the Dark Ages will begin again!!!! that would be a cool movie!)

I've avoided Myspace specifically because Murdoch owns it. This cements my resolve to stay away.

I should try this tactic with my students, they'll waste much less of their lives this way.

meh...myspace makes it easier to coordinate nights out with many a person...which is what drew me in. I could care less what murdoch owns and doesn own..
